Hello all, first post so forgive me if I'm breaking cyberlaws here. I have a pair of DT 990 Pros which I love and have enjoyed since I got them. At work about a month ago I started getting breaks in the signal and eventually they starting doing this strange thing where sounds panned all the way to the left or all the way tot he right would sound fine but anything mixed in the middle of the stereo, namely vocals, would be missing or totally garbled. I tried panning the PC output all the way to the left and right and when you pan it all the way both side's speakers work fine.
After some research I believe there is a break in the ground connection in the cable? I tried moving the cord around, bending it, blah blah and I believe I found the area with the break (I can get the phones to sound normal for a split second if I manipulate it enough). It is about 3 or 4 inches down from the can, not ideal but not unworkable. In the past I have repaired really ****ty headphones just by slicing the cord with an exacto, splitting the wires, electrical tape, more electrical tape.
My question before I go and ruin these further is whether or not this is going to be a difficult fix, or if I should just consider having them rewired? I'd appreciate any input that you all have, I'd like to at least get them working again for now and can explore more permanent fixes down the road if need be. Can I just slice and dice these? Is this going to be a huge pain? Anything I should look out for? Once again sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong place.
