Need help with a combination query??

Hello,

I have seen a pair of Sennheiser HD 650's going for a good price. I'm tempted to get them but can anyone comment on these paired with my Audioengine D1?

I don't want so upgrade DAC/amp as I just cannot justify the spend. Therefore, if this combination is no good, I guess I'd be wasting my money on the 650's.

Thanks,

Jay.

It has enough juice to drive 650's. It uses OPA2134, which is high performance one and sounds good enough.

Just make sure buy flexible 1/4 inch to 1/8 inch adapter just in case the seller does not include it when you buy HD650.

Otherwise there is a high chance to break D1's headphone jack if you use cheapy short inflexible 1/4-1/8 adapter.

Thanks for the response. I learnt my lesson with the adapter when my current HD 595's broke my TV headphone port.

I think I will take the plunge then!

Thanks again,

Jay.

Just to know, 1/4-1/8 adapter is a part of HD650 accessory and you might not need to buy one. But since you are buying second hand, the seller may had lost it. Ask him/her if he/she still has it.

I will hopefully be picking them up this evening so I'll be sure to know then. I am happy now to make the purchase and will look into this. I like my 595's, slightly flat but I knew this through research prior to buying. I love the detail you gain, hearing things you wouldn't otherwise. If you have experience with these headphones, would you suggest this would be a worthy upgrade?

Thanks again,

Jay.

Actually HD600 and HD650 are rather different from HD595 series.

HD6xx series are originated from HD580. They have warm, dark and laid-back sound with wide soundstage.

HD5xx series are originated from HD590. Those series are also warm and dark, but they are far more forward sounding with smaller soundstage.

Overall soundwise HD650 is good upgrade from HD595 with a lot more details and clarity, but the sound signature is different.
