Proximity of strong magnets (neodymium) next to cables

Hi, all

I am working on a project with some cables (High quality silver core, copper shielding) and I am interested to the views here on whether a neodymium magnet, fixed t the Y split in a cable, will affect sound quality. Naturally a moving magnetic field will induce current and obviously mess up the sound, but would a fixed magnet?

As long as it's a well made cable with the Send & Return conductors very close to each other and firmly fixed or molded (not just 2 loose wires) then I don't think that it will have any affect.

While you didn't say just what signal level was involved, I know that with a well made balanced line level cable, it can be wrapped around an AC powered bulk tape de-magnetizer  with no effect.
