Like yourself, I had a Sony V6 for a while and then bought a DT-990 Pro. I was very impressed with it... The fact that you were underwhelmed has me wondering what kind of sound you are looking for. Claritas makes a good suggestion, and you might also want to look this over: http://www.head-fi.org/t/220770/describing-sound-a-glossary -- See if any of these terms make sense to you, and report back with the ones that you have strong positive or negative reactions to. This will help people direct you to headphones you might like.

I didn't realize the Fiio E10 had a gain switch on the bottom. Switched it to high gain and presto! Amazing clarity, sound stage, and quite a bit of volume increase!

May be totally off topic but just curious if you have an opinion on sub 150 USD IEMs?

Nope, not really. There is a huge thread comparing IEMS that you can search for with a lot of answers.

I try to keep my IEM purchases in the $20 range because I lose them too much. In fact, I can't find my NuForce NE-600X IEMs right now...
