Looking for over-ear headphones for gaming / music. Budget around 150-180 USD.

Hello Audiophiles! I'm not exactly an experienced audiophile myself, but like most people here i'm looking for a good pair o' headphones

What i'm interested in, is a pair of over-ear headphones that i'll be using for gaming and music.

When it comes to gaming i'm mostly into immersive games, but i don't mind having a bit of fun with some fps shooters.

I mostly listen to rocky music, but the bass shouldn't be overpowered.

I'm on a laptop with what i suppose is some sort of integrated sound driver.. it also has Asus Sonic Master. I have no interest in buying an external audio driver.

Budget lies around 150-180 USD (but bare in mind that my danish prices might be slightly higher than us(?))

I recently bought the praised HD 518, but the huge jak (with converter) took up a lot of space, and the slightest touch rearranged the male jak in my female jak *wink*, resulting in the sound being either distorted or gone (mostly the last of those two). As a result, i sadly had to return it - So i'm still on the market!.

Thanks :)

hmm.. i found a second hand Phillips Fidelio L1 for sale as a second hand for 165 USD which really is quite tempting.

On the other hand, all the comments that ive found on it either praise it of lash it...

are you okay with open headphones? Open is the best choice for immersive headphones. I recommend the sennheiser hd598 or sony ma900

also, do you game with pc or consoles? getting the right sound processor makes quite the difference.

i suggest you look at mad lust envy's thread here: http://www.head-fi.org/t/534479/mad-lust-envys-headphone-gaming-guide-updated-9-2-2013-sony-ma900-added

Those are way out my league when it comes to payment, sadly.

Are they really worth the extra 50 bucks i'd have to spend on them, over the hd 518? As far as i've ben able to figure out, the 518's have more bass (i'm no basshead), whilst the 558's are.. clearer? I'm worried that the 518's more squared pads might be uncomfortable or leaky.. when i tried them on they went slightly under my head, leaving open space.

I managed to find some which can ship for 28 usd http://www.divineaudio.co.uk/sennheiser-hd-5x8-1-2m-replacement-cable-with-3-5mm-plug

Any last dying thoughts of the Fidelio L1? it's a nice deal but i'm somewhat worried.

Bought the Sennheiser HD 558 and the 1,2 m cable, thanks ;) Already bought the Zalman mic which seems quite popular.. might upgrade to ModMic AntLion 4.0 once it comes out!
