How much does opening IEMs decrease their resale value?

I have a brand new pair of IEMs, in the $400 price point.

I don't believe that I want to keep them, because I don't see myself listening to them all that much.  When I'm at my desk, I'm an over-ear listener... and when I'm away from my desk, the thought of losing or breaking a pair of $400 IEMs would cause me to not feel comfortable.

That being said... I'm really curious how they sound.  But I don't know whether opening them will decrease the resale price too much.

thanks

Like with anything, you will definitely take a hit in resale value. Personally, when I had $200 IEM's I was so scared of breaking them on the go I actually returned them and went back to my closed over ears.

So yes, they will definitely take a hit, probably at least $50.

FI reckon if you sell them right now they will be around $320-350 but if you open it maybe around $300.

It depends which headphones are we talking about. New headphones on the market are easier to sell because a lot of users want to try them. Its hard to define a percentage: 15% probably...
