Help Me Decide On An Entry-Level Pair of Cans, Currently choosing between ATH-M50's and AKG-k240's

Hey guys, been browsing here for a little while.  Want to get my first pair of decent headphones. I have been using speakers for most of my listening and some Sony MDR-XB500's, which i don't especially like. They were given to me by a friend.

My price is around $100-200. Right now i either want to get AKG-k240 or ATH-M50s.

I want good comfort, accurate sound, good build, and somewhat portability.

I listen to a wide variety of music including Rock, Shoegaze, Metal, Electronic, Hip-Hop, Jazz, Classical.

Will be using them for at home listening and sometimes at school. I want something that doesn't look too bulky, and doesn't have much leakage.

With the semi-open design of the Akg's how much do they leak?

Are the ATH-m50's bass overpowering, are the mids recessed?

Give me some advice and direction. Thanks Head-fi.

I also want decent sound isolation to block out surrounding people, however will a closed design sacrifice quality?

I personally dont find the ath m50 comfortable, bor do i find them portable.

Leakage of the k240 is minimal. Unless ur playing them at levels that will damage your ears (which u shouldnt do...) you should be fine. I would prefer the akg over the m50.

You could also look into sony mdr 1r, or onkyo es hf300 as well as the UE 6000 which are fairly discounted right now.
