Best amp/soundcard to go with AKG Studio 240s

Hi!  I've had a pair of akg studio 240s for six years now (since back from when they were made in Austria not China) and I have been considering the best way to upgrade my audio setup.

What is the best soundcard or amp/dac that would suit the AKG studio 240s.  Many thanks!

you could consider E17 or E10

Asus Xonar DG (PCI, $27) or DGX ($40, PCI-E) sound card. Currently there is a $10 mail in rebate this month.

They come with a basic headphone amplifier.

E10 is desktop dac/amp and E17 can be used as dac/amp when it is connected to computer and can also be used a portable amp.

I was also considering getting an asus xonar essence stx for a larger upgrade (and eventually getting higher end headphones)  would that be a viable option (especially because i would be using it for a fair bit of pc gaming)?

The Essence STX would be a good investment for use with future headphones.

Should also bring out the best in the AKG K240s

Maybe look into getting the AKG K612 Pros (find some used), so far everything I read on the AKG K612 Pros is positive.

Thanks to you and rubinstein for the helpful and informed feedback!  I've decided to go with the essence stx for quality and future upgradeability.  All the best!  -SierackiCello
