Hello!! I'm pretty new to the headphone world so I would appreciate some honest help. I am looking for some headphones for some casual listening, not for studio work or anything of that sort. I am currently debating between the Shure SRH840 and the Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 80ohms and I am wondering which one would better fit my criteria.

•Budget: $200 or less

•Source: I'll be plugging these into my ipod, laptop, etc.

•Isolation: I would like at least some isolation (so I guess I prefer closed headphones?)

•Type: Full-sized

•Tonal Balance: I would like an emphasized bass but I don't want anything else to be buried.

•Past headphones: Apple ear buds, Beats Studio model (I know they aren't great but they were a Christmas present)

•Preferred Music: I usually listen to indie (Monsters and Men, Mumford and Sons), house/trance/etc (Infected Mushroom, Astrix), rock (Queen, Dropkick Murphys), and a little bit of jazz and rap.

I will be using these headphones on the train when I commute so I would prefer if the headphones don't have any leakage like the Beats do. I would also be using these for extended periods of time so they need to be comfortable as well.

I would prefer not to have to buy an amp but if I HAVE to I will be purchasing a FiiO for the Beyers but I just don't know which one (the cheaper, the better). Any suggestions? Also, do I need anything extra to go along with the amp?

Thanks!!!

It's really better to use the DT770 Pro 80-Ohm with a headphone amplifier.

So I would guess the 44-Ohm SRH840 are the better choice.

I use to use the 770 for work, but found that the velour pads leaked a decent amount of sound at my preferred listening volume. Would you consider the AKG K550? The cords on both are a bit long though for portable use. Just my two cents.
