KRK KNS 8400: Do I need an Amp? Please, I need help.

Hello guys, this is my first post here.

I dont know too much about sound theory and all that, but since almost everyone in here knows a thing or two about headphones and sound, I would like to ask for your help about this:  Me and my friend used to produce electronic music in his home studio, wiht two KRKs Rokit 6, but, since he moved to other city and we need to keep producing and sending each other our works, I have to start producing by myself in Ableton Live from my MacBook, but there is a problem with that: I dont have neither the space nor the privacy (and also, the budget) to get a pair of good speakers, so I decided to buy some cans that I think will be brutally honest and adapt to the work we do, and I'm talking about the KRK kns 8400.

So, my question to you guys is:

- It is necesary for me to buy an amp to connect these kind of headphones to my MacBook? If so, wich ones do you recommend (in a price range between 50 - 100$, the lesser the best :D)

Or,

- Will be enough to just plug the HPs directly into the MacBook output?

Keep in mind that I need those for electronic music (deep house) production only.

I would like to hear your opinions and suggestion about this.

Thanks in advance for all of you.

Gabriel.

P.S: Excuse my english.

The KNK KRS8400 can work plugged directly into the Macbook.

Getting an external DAC/amp is optional (like a FiiO E10)

I bought it a couple of weeks ago. It's very clear and highly resolving, and it sounds more open than most closed models. It's the best closed monitor I've found.

I am very disappointed, however, with the stiff cable, which carries cable-born ("microphonic") noise. I have asked around and this is true at least to some extent for every pair sent out. It's a common complaint. Most owners don't work in audio, so they're able or willing to live with it. KRK told me that they would be willing to replace the cable, but I am doubtful that their replacement will be any different. I'll have to decide if I want to recable or return it. :( I am sorry to bear bad news, but warning you about this problem is the right thing to do.

So, if I understend correctly, you use the cans pluged directly to the source?

Oh, and about the noise, I will take note of that problem.

Thank you Claritas!

You're most welcome. I use them straight from my iPod, no amp, without any problems. Amping improves almost every headphone, but you don't lose anything by not using an amp with this pair.
