Best Headphones for me for under $350 or so.

post #1 of 3
Thread Starter

Hello, i'm new to Head-Fi and i'm looking for the best headphones for me for around $300 or so. I originally posted this in the wrong forum so i was directed here. I listen to almost all genres. Country, Alternitive, EDM, House, Dubstep, Trancestep, Rap/Hip Hop, smooth jazz, classical, classic rock. You name it. I like alot of bass. Without the loss of sound quality of course. I don't want a subwoofer attached to my head. (Please don't suggest beats by dre products.) I would like the headphones to preform well without an portable amp. Id prefer not needing an amp, but if the headphones you choose for me will preform much better with an amp, then be my guest and link me an amp. With an amp and the headphones, id like to be right around $400-450. They'd be used primarily with an iPhone 5 and a 27" iMac. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Im open to all suggestions. Thank you!

Maybe the Philips X1/28 Fidelio headphones?

@PurpleAngel lol. I would find you still on these recommend threads. Looks like you're at 13k posts since 2011 now.

@OP

Let me enlighten you. If you did your time crawling around the forums a bit for questions people pose similar to yours, you would know that there's no way to get a straight answer. Especially to such a polarizing word as "best". What I can do is tell you what headphones I would personally recommend for your genres of music. And that's pure speculative opinion at that. There is no set determining characteristic a certain headphone must have in order to be proficient at that type of music. In the end, it all comes down to personal preference. Otherwise there wouldn't be much of a forum here.

Just my two cents for your foray into the audiophile journey. Had I known this in the beginning, it would have saved my wallet quite a chunk of money. Before spending 300 or more on the commom hd600s/650s/dt880s/d7000s, how about you start with some less expensive purchases and find out what defining trait or set of traits you really appreciate in headphones for the music you listen to. Of course, in retrospect you might find this more expensive in the long run. But it sure beats blowing 5 bills only to be mildly impressed. Get your feet wet.

if interested, pm with any questions. But please, do your research first. This is a database and a wealth of information.

And once again, welcome to headfi.
