Recommend a sub 200 headphone/possible amp combo?

Hello,

So currently, I have a X-Fi Titanium HD paired up with Audio Technica ATH-AD700.

Mainly playing BF4/League, I do listen to music (50/50, maybe 60/40 gaming to music). Main genres are Trance, Electro, Chill, etc to some Acoustic (David Choi, Random Cover vids) to Hip-Hop/Rap (Childish Gambino, etc). I guess an overall genre?

While this has been great for me, I'm wanting to try other headphones.

I would like something as comfortable as the AD700s, open or closed don't matter to me or people around me.

At the moment, ones I've found highly recommended were the Sennheiser HD598, Beyerdynamic DT-990-Pro-250, Audio-Technica ATH-A900X. Any other recommends would be great. Looking to spend ~$200, ~$300 if I would get an amp. Mainly prefer Amazon for the free shipping as I'm in Hawaii, but if need be, I can pay the cost for shipping as well.

From what I understand, these don't require an amp but do benefit from it?

Would I need one or just create a better experience?

Also on the side, what are some good desktop speakers, preferably in the price of $100-$200.

I'm looking at M-Audio AV 40s. These would be purely for music and movies (80\20)

Thank you for any input :)

And sorry for a disorganized wall of text, i tried ;w;

Live in Hawaii,

Must be horrible there with all the sunshine and eating dinner next to the water under the stars.

(I own the HD558 (not the HD598), AD700, DT990 & A900X)

The HD598 might not be that big a difference over the AD700s

And I would assume you would want to keep the AD700s for FPS gaming.

Where as the DT990 and A900X would have that bass you have been missing while using the AD700.

You might consider getting a headphone amplifier, plug it into the Ti-HD's RCA output and take advantage of the LME49710 op-amp (which the headphone output does not use).

The Schiit Magni could easily drive all the headphones listed so far. It's low impedance (>1-Ohm) should be a benefit for lower Ohm headphones, like the Audio Technica 32-Ohm ATH-AD700 and 42-Ohm ATH-A900X.

(The Ti-HD's headphone output impedance is 35-Ohms).

You could save a few dollars and get the DT990 Pro 250-Ohm and plug it straight into the Ti-HD's headphone output  (it would be nice to get an external amp too).

If you where looking for a reason to replace the Ti-HD, the Sound Blaster ZxR has been selling for as low as $180 and you could sell off the Ti-HD. You would not need to buy an add-on headphone amplifier.

It's a little easier to run headphone and speakers plugged in at the same time with the ZxR, compared to the Ti-HD

Speaker wise, check out the Monoprice 5" Studio monitors (currently $150 at Monprice, $170 at Amazon)

They seem to be rebranded M-Audio BX5, with minor changes.

Ehh living here gets boring fast, it's better to visit. Milk is $7 a gallon, and gas is creeping near $5 a gallon.

Would say that I should use AD700 for gaming and DT990\A900x for music?

Other then that, the Schiit Magni, doesn't look like it would power the 250ohm DT990 or should I stick with the 32Ohm DT990?

Also, I heard the Audio controller on the ZxR is terrible not much of the card though.

Thank you for your input

Edit: Looking more into the Schiit Magni, would you guys say the Amp+Dac is better then the X-Fi Tit-HD?

I've visited there twice, I know I would be bored to death living there.

I just remember seeing female models on their vacation there (1987), laying naked on the beach.

The DT990 are considered good FPS gaming headphones and the A900X would be fairly decent at FPS, for a closed headphone.

The DT990s are full bass and treble, which slightly over shadows the mids, but the mids are clear.

Good headphones for Blu-ray action movies.

I think I like the A900Xs a little better for music.

My DT990s are at another location, tomorrow I'll try a fresh comparison.

The Schiit Magni should not have a problem with 250-Ohm headphones.

But they other brands of head amps to look at.

The DT990 Premium 32-Ohm still like a little amping, so why spend more for the 32-Ohm (over the 250-Ohm), when your going to be investing in an amp anyway.

I do not follow the ZxR too closely, so there might be more negative feedback on them that I do not know about.

External USB DACs bypass sound cards and your a gamer and sound cards process Headphone Surround Sound.

The Ti-HD comes with a good DAC chip (PCM1794) and decent op-amps.

So I'm not sure you would make a noticeable difference without spending maybe a bit more then you expect.

Sorry I'm confused? If I got the DT990, I planned on get the 250Ohm Pro version. Wouldn't that benefit more than the 32Ohm from an amp?

I'm still in the process of figuring things out, so feel free to treat me like a noob :)
