Hi :D

I've been a viewer in the forum for quite awhile and I recently decided to spend my christmas money on headphones and any other equipment. Now, I have a budget of about 500 dollars, maybe a bit more, but I want the best quality I can get. I admit, I am a bit knowledgeable when it comes to headphones, though I know brands and what not, so I thought I'd come to you guys for help. So any suggestions?

It would help to know what sources your going to be using?

computer? game console? mp3 player? A/V receiver?

Is this for just music? gaming? movies?

Thanks for the reply. I probably would use the headphones for other things, I mostly want headphones for the music.

Is isolation a priority? Are you going to drive them with your cell phone/mp3 player or computer?

Computer is a possibility, but have earphones to listen to on my phone. And isolation isn't a problem.

I just really want to get the best sound possible for the money I have. I don't plan on using these headphones anywhere else other than home.

Schiit Magni/Modi DAC & Amp and Beyerdynamic DT880 Pro 250-Ohm headphones.

Total should not be higher then $450.

You might save $100 if you buy used.

The Schiit Magni and Modi are a great choice. there may be better options than the DT 880 though, since you do have 300 (after buying the Schiit stack) to use on headphones and the DT 880 250ohm is only 200.

telling use what type of music you like will help use make suggestions on headphones that will suit you.

I enjoy a lot of electronic rock and indie (imagine dragons/coldplay etc) with some hip hop, but I do listen to classic rock, just not too much anymore. My price range has actually increased to 500 so hopefully that helps.

Schiit modi and magni will power pretty much anything.

$300 gives you a choice of good headphones like beyer 880, AKG702/Q701, Sennheiser HD600 etc

i would say get either the HE-400 plus Schiit Magni and Modi or the HD 600 with a good amp and DAC
