Need buying advice about these bass-heavy headphones!!

Thread Starter

I'm planning on buying a bass-heavy headphones and, thanks to this site, I've learned a lot about cans and I made what I consider a pretty good list based on price (from 100 to 180€), quality, and type (I need bass-heavy closed cans).

Like I said, I need bass-heavy headphones to listen to Rap/R&B music but I dont want the bass to take over and "destroy" the mids/highs (That's why, basing on the reviews posted here, I'll avoid the V-Modas crossfade LP1) but I dont want a mid or high-heavy headphone nor a balanced one like the audio technica m-50 (of course I dont want the beats lol).

So, these are the ones that I think fit me best and I can afford: (If I make any mistake please correct me)

1.- Audio Technica ATHpro500 mkII: I think they have good bass, good mids and highs too, detachabe cable, durability, good isolation, and a price range from 120 to 140€.

2.- Adio technica ATHpro700MKII: could somebody please tell me the difference between this and the pro500mkII? the price for this one goes from 165 to 172€. If the difference is not that big I will buy the pro500mkII instead of this one.

3.- M-Audio Q40: I've heard great things bout this one but It's difficult to find it in Spain/Europe and the shipping costs would make it extremely expensive.

4.- V-Moda crossfade LP2: great style, durability, Bass, detachable cable, exoskeleton case, mids a bit recessed? (I dont care, unless they're extremely recessed), price around 190€.

5.- Audio technica Solid Bass w77: what's the difference between this and the pro500mkII (im talking extrictly about sound differences not construction, look, etc).

I cant afford the v-moda m-100 (215€), the ATH w99 (240€) , etc. I know they're pretty good but I cant buy em.

I hope you guys can help me with this one because Im a bit lost lol.

Thank you very much and excuse me if I made any mistake, english is not my first language.

PS: oh, and I wont be using an amp.

hi ya, are you considering only closed cans? is portability important for you?

To which source (phone, ipod or computer) do you connect the headphone?

Sorry for the late response but I've been extremely busy the last 4 days.

Yes, I need closed headphones because I'll use them in the bus, street, gym, etc.

Portability is important to a certain degree; but I'm more interested in sound quality.

Im going to use them with my phone and computer mainly.

PS: I should mention that I found the ATHpro500 mkII for 80€ instead of the price range I posted before (120-140€). Is that a steal? And I foundthem in a spanish DJ store not on ebay or sites like that where you can be cheated with fakes.

Thanks again.

UPDATE: in my first post I said I coldnt buy the M-Audio q40 because they were hard to find in Spain/Europe but I found them in a physical store in the UK for what I consider a DAMN GOOD PRICE (70 pounds = 82€ = 112$). The lowest price I could find until I see this one was around 130€.

What do you think about this? Do you think these ones could work for me? I'll listen to R&B and Rap music almost exclusively, I need good isolation, good bass, plus they have detachable cable and are foldable.

Thanks for your help!!!

I finally bought the M-AudioQ40`s for 70 pounds = 82€ = 112$ and they sound AMAZING! just what I wanted.

If anyone is having the same doubts I had when I created this thread, stop doubting and buy them!

If anyone wants to buy them from the same store I did with that great price PM me and I'll give you the link. It's a physical UK store with amazon and ebay stores too.
