Just noticed that the Audio Technica ATH-L3000 and the Shure E3 has been mentioned on pg 26 of the may issue of popular science (What's New) section, although mentioned along with apple's in-ear earphones (which they say is worse than the stock earbuds) and a sony noise-cancelling streetstyle. The Etymotic ER6 was mentioned in last month's issue on extracting the best possible sound from a PDA.
