Sound card or amp/dac for Pc 350 se

Thread Starter

I recently got a new pair of Sennheisers and I feel my current on board solution can not properly power them The headset has an impedence of 150 ohms)  My current on board is the Realtek ALC887 and its pretty bad. Their is some distortion, bass is typical muddy, and the volume is quiet. both my phone and laptop are louder.

I was wondering if a dedicated sound card with an on board amp such as the creative sound blaster Z, or the Xonar DG would be a possible solution.

Or if something like a DAC and amp would be better.

I will primarily use the headset for gaming and the occasional movie. I will also most likely use them only on my Pc.

I'm looking to spend less than 100 dollars.

Any advice is much appreciated (:

right now the audioquest dragonfly is on sale for 100 because the new version is coming out. For computer, i havent heard anything better at the 100 dollar price point. Its a very dynamic and articulate lil thing with a suprising amount of power! Definitely should give it some high consideration.
