Bigger jump in sound quality: amping the m-50 or audio technica ws-99

Hey guys! For the upcoming holiday season I was wondering whether I should get the fiio e17 amp to power the m-50s or a new set of audio technicas all together, the ws-99. I mainly listen to EDM but I also like rock. I appreciate bass in my music but I don't want bloated bass. Any suggestions?

The bigger jump in quality would be to sell one of the two, or both, and then spend that money plus the money you would have spent on the M50 and get a new headphone.

I've never listened to the Audio Technica ATH-WS99 and have only listened to the ATH-M50 for a short period of time.

But I say to sell off the ATH-M50s and buy the ATH-WS99.

What sources are the headphone (and DAC/amp?) going to be used with?

I will be using the amp with my computer but also with my iPhone 4 so something small and portable is preferable.

The WS99 should work decently plugged straight into the computer and the iPhone 4.

If you feel you would want an amplifier.

You could get a Fiio E11 head amp. (Micca combo, extra battery), $59.

The E11 could be used with both iPhone 4 and computer.

Also maybe get a Asus Xonar DG (PCI) sound card, $27.

The WS99 are not a jump in SQ when compared to the M50, probably just a sidegrade. They have more bass but more cleaner, that's it.

Id definitely disagree with that. The ws99 improves in bass, speed and balance.

So, I think Im set to get the ws-99. But the bass of the ws-99 over the m-50 still bothers me.... But how does the ws-99 have a better bass? I like speed but is it any deeper or impactful? I think i need some more clarification on the bass compared to the m-50s because ive been reading that the "solid bass" title still retains some clarity which i really like, but the bass isn't as involving ("solid") or powerful as advertised. Is that true? Speed and balance are definitely a plus, but for EDM is it deeper/richer??  The bass on the ws-99 has be so much better than the m-50 that i want to slap down ~$250 for it. Worth?

or how bout the ws-99 bass vs. ath pro700mk2?

ATH-M50s don't sound that much better amped than they do from a ipod.

i would get the better headphones.
