He is smooth jazz and some argued that smooth jazz is not real jazz.

OK, glad you guys are just having fun..."heated discussions" on Head Fi are not always good natured, sometimes get downright nasty!

Well that's because we are jazz fans and not audiophiles :L3000:

Question:

Why is okay to have non-jazz artists perform at jazz festivals (for proof just look at the artist lineup of just about any jazz festival) but a classical music festival would never have a rock group performing?

Kenny who?

And this one MUST be jazz since he mentions two "jazz" musicians:

Great Richard Thompson post, thanks. One of my musical heroes, Mr RT is, jazz or not...

Pat Metheny on Kenny G. ... priceless, hilarious, ROFL

Since we are on the subject of Pat Metheny here's a little something from Metheny's Unity group, which showcases Metheny deep jazz roots and which features an absolutely killer group:

Pat Metheny, electric and acoustic guitars, guitar synth, electronics, orchestrionics
Chris Potter, tenor sax, soprano sax, bass clarinet, flute, guitar
Antonio Sanchez, drums and cajon
Ben Williams, acoustic and electric basses
Giulio Carmassi, piano, flugelhorn, whistling, synth, vocals

As always, please enjoy responsibly!

Forgot about Jef Lee Johnson till I came across this. Such a unique, wonderful guitarist.

If the previous suggestions haven't worked for the OP yet.... this will.

Recommended equally strongly for jazz haters and jazz aficionados. It's so different from anything else, it can't be put in any genre. It's just really, really good.

Recommended tracks: 07. Prince Vlady (Part 1), 08. I Need You Now
