Got my PPX3 today!

I came home tonight to a nice surprise, Mikhail had dropped off my PPX3 earlier today. I probably plugged it in less than a half hour ago, so the tubes are just now getting warmed up. Being impatient I didn't even wait for the tubes to warm up fully before listening to it. To say that I like the sound is quite an understatement. This thing mops the floor with my PIMETA in every way. The soundstage is awesome, the bass quite deep, and the overall sound very full. I have one of the newer black chassis ones and it is a very beautiful amp (pics coming tommorrow). Everyone who said the PPX3 goes well with HD600s is right, my HD600s with Oehlbach cable sound great with this amp

Congrats! Very cool. Looking forward to more of your impressions. If I were to add a tube amp to my system (key word there is "add" as I do love my PPA) this one's on the list.

Congrats on the new toy. I've read nothing but great things about the Singlepower amps so I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Have fun.

The ppx3 is an awesome amp. I like the 6cg7 tubes they have a clean but robust presentation. The new black chassis is so nice although the wood/ chrome on the original ppx3 is also classy. I dont think you do better for the money. How is the transformer mounted on this version of the ppx3?

It is mounted in a black box on the back left of the amp. It looks very much like the 6SN7 version of the PPX3 shown on the bottom of http://www.6sn7.com except of course it's black, a bit smaller, and the transformer has a box covering it. This is not only my first tube amp, it's the first device I have had with a blue LED. I'll have some pics up sometime later today.

It came with a set of Electro-Harmonix tubes and a set of RCA cleartops. I tried both, and although both were quite good I found I liked it best when there was an RCA tube in the voltage gain stage and the EH tubes on the outputs. I am really enjoying the sound of this thing. This tube combo helps bring out the midrange a bit, yet also keeps the aggression present in a lot of what I listen to. I'll have some more detailed impressions later, after I've gotten some sleep. That is, if I sleep. I just can't stop listening to this thing

ooheadsoo, you've got quite a nice new toy yourself. That wooAudio amp looks quite good

Congrats on your new amp. I can't wait to hear Earls PPX3 next week. The reviews of this amp have me thinking I need to put together another system. Have fun.

Congrats Donovan! I to was blown away by how good the PPX3 is, it really was quite a step up from my old Meta42. Tuberolling adds a bit more fun to the experience. May I suggest also trying to get a set of Ei's and Sylvania's from Mikhail if you can. Both these have quite different sonic characteristics themselves and offer some interterting options for combinations.

Congratulations to both of you!

I am waiting for some pics now, ok,

Hey Brian, were you playing "hookie" waiting for the amp,
I don't blame you...

Isn't the black finish just a killer on these enclosures.

Enjoy!!

man I wish I was because I have the amp sitting here at my desk with no headphones or source to use!

The black finish is most definitely killer. It's hard to tell how nice it is in pics because the glossy lacquered steel doesn't photograph well.
