AAMML HOLIDAY GIFT EXCHANGE (Winter 2014)
In commemoration of the upcomming two year anniversary of the 'Official Asian Anime, Manga, and Music Lounge', I propose a Holiday Gift Exchange.
The internet has spawned a vast amount of new systems of exchanges and interactions since the dawn of this era. A popular idea as of late is an internet gift exchange.
AAMML has created friends, connections, memories and experiences since it was first started December 18, 2011 by our very own Haiburi-chan. Now that we are nearing two years with this thread. I think that many would like to have a little AAMML gift exchange.
I wish to thank Charles for giving me this idea :)
The gifts should arrive during the holiday week of December. (December 22 to January 1) Exceptions should be fine
Registration ends on December 1. This is to give wiggle room.
Deciding on direct partners or random matching will be on November 30th. Read what this means in the FAQ below.
I know there are many questions:
- Half our members are international (non USA)
Well that just means that if you guys do want to take part, you just indicate which region of the world you are fine with.
- Cost of this?
Low cost gifts, to any place around the world you are fine with handling shipping to, matched with a random partner (through drawing) that also has same shipment preferences to your part of the world. The total cost could be anywhere from $10 USD to $30 USD total including shipping already.
- International Shipping is expensive?
AHHH young grasshopper. You must learn. You could just buy a thing online from the retailler in their part of the world and ship it to their address by that retailler thereby cutting down the cost of international sending. You don't actually have to buy it from your local retailler and then send it in another package. Language barrier, and ability to charge your own paypal or credit card is a bit funky. So this is a bit limiting. But should work for most countries our members are in.Example: (Click to show)
P1 buys from Amazon USA. Ships to his house. Then boxes it up and ships to UK address with USPS =Baka
P1 buys from Amazon UK and ships it directly to P2 using his nation's online retailler and paypal. =Smart
This of course has some bigger problems with payment issues and language barriers in some parts of the world. The first way to solve this is to use Google translate if you can't read the site. See if there is an English(or any lang you know) option at the bottom. If not. See if anyone from AAMML knows that language(obviously not your gift receipient). This should cover 90% of all cases for language. Next is payment. Most sites should be able to use paypal, google checkout etc etc. If not, try a proxy. If this doesn't work, see if there is anyone near that geographic area that has the ability to purchase and input the shipping address for you(while keeping it secret). Paypal him the funds then. This should solve 90% of the problems with international gift exchange logistics.
- Direct Partner or random matching?
Does this random gift exchange involve fitting two people together so that they both give and reason to that pair or is it just a random one where the giver and receiver don't have to be a pair? This will be decided by your guys.
- Qualification for Participation?
Nothing huge. Just be a member that we 'know'. This is very vague, so I'm just gonna say, a member that has posted at least 5 times in the past. Obviously it would be weird to have some random guy see this exchange and decide to join in. This is pretty irrelevant anyway as this is a private group.
- When is this?
The gifts should arrive December 22-January 1. This is a Holiday gift exchange of course :) +- whatever is fine as well. Obviously it can't ship in March.
- What can I give?
Something that is between $10 to $20 preferably. This leaves a lot of wiggle room for hilarious gift exchanges. Most of us know quite a bit about each other. Hell, use the search function along with advance search a person's username to find their 'moments'. Some suggestions can include oppai mouse pads, pettanko hug blankets, tenga etc if you know they are 18 and over and wish to send a comedic gift. Other suggestions can include CD's, Drama disks, figurines, or just other doujin spoil of wars that people often crave but can't get access to in their country. Again, use the advanced search function to find out what it is that they want deep down. Or you can go traditional and just get a manga book or anime disk. Whatever floats your boat.
