Isin't the Precesion 2 an intergrated amp ? So you were pre-amping a pre-amp ? That might be the reason for the hum..

Missed that... Does the Precision 2 - IN 5 work fine with source other than M9 ? I have tried the M9 as a pre-amp into my Cayin A-70T tube amp (it is an integrated tube speaker amp but just like Precision 2 can work as a power amp , with inputs that bypass the pre amp section). Works perfectly.

It should work fine with any pre-amp.

Isn't there a middle ground between these 2 features?

And if I do get a Custom version, so it won't have a difference at all if I use only 1 DAC at a time right?
From what I understand you might have crosstalk between the inputs if multiple inputs are playing and that's it. But you could ask Kingwa for more details just to be sure.

for why this design was chosen and details about the custom version I will quote Kingwa's email below
"Yes the amp is short its inputs while power off, and even power on, the idle inputs had short to gnd.
If the amp if connect more than 1 units source, this can avoid the sources sound crossing and make the worst on sound.
If you want to order the Master 9 had not short the input, we can do the customs order.
But without short the input functions, if you connect one source on input 1 another on the input 2, the input 1 signal may crossing to input 2, and the input 2 signal may crossing to input 1 "

Hmm...

I assume if your using an AG-DAC then this should not be an issue. (to leave the DAC on, while the M9 is off?)

Well, I guess/hope not biggrin.gif

I use AGD NFB-7 & Meier Daccord with M9 with no issues.

Why not treat the Master-9 as a one input device if that would solve the problem? For me it's an easy fix since the only other device I have is a CD player which I seldom use. My only DAC is a PWD2.
I am using the Master-9 as a preamp to my ECC 445 and it works beautifully. No hum. I love the sound through my Tektons Lore Reference speakers.

Even if you treat it as a one input device you could fry your DAC when turning the M9 off if you don't have the custom version...

I can't imagine KingWa would design a product that would be a problem to DACs and continue to offer it without a fix.

I have had no problems with my PWD2 and before with my Yulong.

Well, I couldn't imagine as well but I guess I was wrong.

I've read dan's review on headmania and that's one of the things that convinced me to place an order.can't wait to receive my master9 and do some serious comparisons with all my headphones and my amplifiers.it coud be an end-game amp ;-)

I have looked into master 9 specs and he-9 specs and based on the graphs on THD for example and frequency band the he-9 looks flat do you think that he-9 because of that would be much better?

As Kinwa says:       "Please note the HE series products are upgrade from Master series, even though the price had a big rate increased but the sound quality had not same rate improved."
