Audio-GD Master 9 - Page 5

The only person who ever said the M8 was bright around here was Dubstep Girl-and she was using what was known to most people as a bright-ish amp-the Mytek. Then her comments  were regurgitated like everything around here. It was also in direct comparison to the same dac on th GSX-so one could infer that the Headamp is actually very slightly warm (others have felt that way), and that the M8 is actually the more 'dead nuts neutral' sound that AGD is well known for, thus sounding relatively bright to her. Even though she still says she doesn't feel the Mytek is bright-look at her past amp pairings...Wa2, Wa22, GSX...get my drift?

I do agree with nigeljames that the M5/6/8 series should sound identical-even Kingwa will tell you this. IIRC though, he basically said the M9 is slightly warmer in the lower registers-that doesn't sound like a big difference to me, on paper anyway. If it was a big enough difference in sound-then Kingwa would have called it something else-and it wouldn't have negated the rest of the Master series amps either. That's just how he works really. The Master series are the pinnacle of his designs-so thinking they sound quite a bit different is far fetched imo-unless he's discovered some huge breakthrough lol. This isn't like his low/mid-tier stuff that gets updated every few months...

Froger-iirc you were the one who hated the M7/M8/HD800 combo like me right? I also felt that combo was way to boring and distant-but in retrospect I think a lot of that had to do with the M7's '5th row' presentation, whichs lacks depth and intimacy-which is a bad pairing for the Senns imo. Purrin also feels the M7 has this presentation. I think the M8 was just passing that through as it should, just being dead neutral. I really want to try the M8/M9 again though with the intimate/3D Eximus though, as I'm sure it would be an entirely different experience...my .02.

I'm not one of those people who feel the GSX mk2 is warm at all. We shall see if it sounds slight warm compared to the M9. I'm hoping I get zero brightness with the M9 because I'm pretty sensitive to any peaks in the higher frequencies. I tend to lean more towards slightly warm, so I'm hoping my DAC/M9 combo will synergize well. I don't think anyone feels the sound will be significantly different, but from what I've heard through the grapevine, the sound is slighty fuller which will definitely be appreciated if the M8 lacked a bit.

Placed my order a few days ago and was sent an email saying it would be out in 5 days. So I'm guessing earliest sometime late next week, if not early the week after.

Sounds right. I think every AGD product I've ordered (6-8) all arrived within 2 weeks-usually closer to 10 days. Looking forward to your impressions-but keep in mind AGD gear is notorious for a long burn in for the most part. I'm sure it'll still sound excellent out of the box after a couple hours of warm up. ;)

Yea, I'll make sure to run it non-stop for awhile but I'm desperate for some AMPLIFICATION. I'm amp less right now and it sucks...

I know the feeling...basically waiting on the Rag and Leviathan for a while now. Almost pulled the trigger on a couple of others in the meantime-but I'm hoping these will prove to be my endgame, ampwise.

If I remember correctly, Audio-gd told me they are burning in my Master 9 for 300 hours before shipping.  Will it still need burn- in or will it sound it's best right away?

600 hrs burn in MOAR :veryevil:

I'd love to know the answer too

I thought they just burned stuff in for 100 hours, maybe 200? Either way, most of their higher end stuff needs about 500 hours imo-at least with the totl dacs.

Great news... I received confirmation that my M9 is on the way. Should hopefully have it sometime next week I suppose.

Yes it’s correct! Kingwa told me he burning in them for 300 hours before shipping.

The M9 probably need a little more burn in to sound there really best, but we can hopefully enjoy them right away. =)
