Does the Master 9 have the power to drive the HE-6 as good as a speaker amplifier?  If not -how close does it get?

My Master-6 drives then very well indeed, I would expect the M9 to be at least as good but does it drive the HE6's as well as a speaker amp?

Well does that not depend on the speaker amp in question.

There are many low power speakers amps that put out far less power into the 50ohm impedance of the HE6's than the M6/9.

Also like headphone amps synergy is still important. Some speaker amps won't be a good synergistic match with the HE6's regardless of how much power they have.

I prefer my M6 to the typical < £500 speaker amps from the likes of NAD, Rotel, Yamaha etc etc but I have not heard them with a powerful high quality speaker amp.

With nothing to buy over this festive period, I decided to buy the Master 9 and try this amplifier. Just emailed them and am awaiting a reply as to turnaround.

It will be interesting to see how this amplifier compares. Source will be the Lumin Music player or Metrum Hex (sourced by the Lumin). Comparisons with the Cavalli LAu and the Violectric V200. Headphones being the Abyss, HD800, LCD2&3, HE500. I will further add a pair of HE6 once the M9 arrives.

My desktop system is fully tweaked with; good power management, power enhancers such as the Nordost QV2s, Isolators in Nordost Kones/ Shun Mook, and interconnects/power cables that feels at home in uBer high end rigs.

I have just read this complete thread and am really quite excited by this amplifier..............

Subscribed. I'm really looking forward to your impressions of the M9 paired with your gear.

I'm very interested in your impressions compared to your other amps for sure.

How close would the Master 9 get the HE-6 versus to the best speaker amp match out there?

Could it get 95% of the results of the best speaker amp. out there?

Unlikely but let's be honest the price difference between the M9 and the best speaker amp match is likely to be massive and not really a fair comparison.

Something to bear in mind with speaker amps, regardless of price, is that no speaker amp is going to be compatible with many headphones.

My M6 is superb with the T1, HD800, LCD2.1 & 2.2, AKG-701, HE-6 and a few cheap high sensitivity phones that I have tried, no speaker amp is going to drive all these well due to gain, hiss, excessive power issues.

Also many top class speaker amps are actually less powerful than the M9 @50 ohms

How does the LCD 2/3 compare with the HE-6 from the master 9?

I prefer the He-6 to my LCD2.2 but I do tend to prefer neutral - bright phones than dark ones.

However saying that the LCD2.2 are not dark in my system just marginally darker than the HE6's.

There are many speakers amps that cost about the same or even less that I consider a better pairing than the M9. So far the M9 is a decent combination with the HE-6, about on par with the GS-X mk2 - which can power the HE-6 but I feel still lacks good dynamics and ultimate transparency. Few examples of speakers amps that I feel outclass the M9 - Odyssey Stratos+, F3 (Used), Khartago, Forte Model 3, and Adcom GFA-565se. All of those amps I feel are a better buy if the HE-6 is the only concern.

WOO! my master 9 is on its way + a Ref 5.32 :)

and.. I missed the delivery.... sigh. :(

I guess I need to wait till Monday.

The master 9 is very well worth the wait, IMO!

The Master 9 have now pushed more than 200 hours and I really love the sound from it. My imprecision is that It’s more extend in both the bas and treble, it’s much more dynamic and have a fuller sound then my Soloist with the LCD 3 and Hifiman HE 500.

The tonality is really good in my set up, with a rich and colorful presentation that have a warm sound then it’s on the record, but I wouldn’t say that it coloured. The transparency and resolution is good, but will probably be even better with a more refined IC like Audioquest sky. I maybe have one coming next week.

The sound has changed a little during the time I have had it at home. The depth in the sound stage is a bit deeper, the overall sound is fuller, more refined and organic now. The initial little bit of harshness in the high treble is now gone. I would say that is the musicality what have changed the most, maybe 10 % better and technicality with about 5 %. Al this from an already high level of musicality and technicality on the Master 9.

The Master 9 is IMHO clearly superior to my Burson Soloist and Graham Slee Solo ultra linear diamond edition on everything. Regarding dynamic much better.

My system: Jriver ---Audiophilleo 2 with pure power---Hegel HD 20---Audioquest panther---Master-9 --- Q cable french silk ---Audeze LCD 3/Hifiman He 500. I also have 4 power cords from LessLoss and a power strip from Furetech.
