HE-400 vs. HE-500 vs. HE-4 Comparison - Page 15

The Science Fiction Album: Prague Philharmonic Orchestra
 - Independence Day

The whole album will put any HP and amp through the paces but my favorite is Independence Day. It covers the whole sound spectrum IMO with areas of many of instruments at one time. Soundtracks are usually good for putting sound equipment through the paces:

What'd you get for Amp and Dac?

I have the Star Wars Episode IV soundtrack on CD which should sound epic as well.

Right on, man! You'll have to let us know what you think of the setup. :)

As for albums, I would get Infected Mushroom - Vicious Delicious. Currently only EDM albums come to mind, let me know if you want a bigger list.

I found my NIN Downward Spiral CD but it was scratched:( so I ordered a new one. I found tons of other good CDs but DSOTM is missing. I might have to get a new copy.

" Infected Mushroom - Vicious Delicious."

Have you ever listened to Shpongle?

+1 on this

The HE-4 has better slam / impace.  The HE-500s has a longer decay.  The longer decay may be good for some things and not so good for others.

Hi,

I currently have the Schiitz Vali + Modi Stack with the HD 650 and was looking into purchasing a complimentary headphone to listen to my music (predominantly pop, female vocals, etc) from a different perspective. I had heard that the HE-400s were complimentary to the HD 650, but are the HE-4's also complimentary or are they just an upgrade of the HD 650? Thanks.

If the consensus is true that the HD650 are warm HPs the HE4 would better compliment them than the HE400. The HE400 will compliment them as well but the HE4 has more contrast than the HE400 will to a warm headphone. Plus they're a better HP ;)

Would the Vali+Modi stack be adequate to power them though?

Depends on who you ask. I think not, 600mw to each driver would be great for the HE400. With that said... I did plug the HE4 to 1000mW/ch on the headphone out of the Tubemagic A1, it sounded fine until things picked up and you have a lot of instruments going at one time. Then it was congestion station

Well, here is my short review. I will write more when I am "bored" of these HE-4s
