Shure SE846's with custom silver cables: Discussion of top amp combinations (less/eql to $600)

Hello,

I am trying to make a decision on what amp+dac or dac only to pair with my SE846's. I noticed that many Ray Samuels Amps are recommended in this price range, but I also see that many full powered, non portable amps are as well.

I see myself being stationary when listening to my 846's, and I am not going to use an AMP during gym workouts, so my question is if I should still go for an RSA balanced amp, or if I should go for a full sized non portable for the a similar price ( such as ARCAM irDAC).

Also, any discussion as to whether smaller amp which uses balanced cables is capable of outperforming a larger amp which is not capable of using balanced cables (E.g. some RSAs can use a balanced interconnect, but the larger ARCAM irDAC works with USB connectivitiy).

Really looking for recommendations or theories on the best quality for my dollar. I am looking for clarity of midrange as well as something that can clean up but also power the strong bass capabilities of the 846's, similar to the effect of silver cabling. Hopefully this can turn into a discussion that helps generate ideas on great dacs to pair with the 846s.

imo rsa sr-71b is exceptional.

Since the SR71B is only an amp, are you sure it will improve the quality as much as an amp/DAC combo, or DAC only? Especially since the se846's are already low resistance, coupled with silver cables reducing that impedance more, I would theorize that a DAC would cause deeper improvements than an amp.
