The Deals DISCUSSION Thread (READ THE FIRST POST!!!) - Page 144

What is the story with the MDR10R? I looked the up on the forum and the initial information shows they were/are a very expensive limited edition set of cans that are rare and fabled for their sound - like unobtanium.

I'm assuming that these are now mass produced and maybe not the same as the original item? How else could they be under $200 instead of the original $2000?

Does anyone know the story?

You're confusing the 10R and R10.

We didn't miss anything. The T1 have been on sale off of SonicSense for 830 new.

Nothing to see here.

They don't even look remotely alike. Look at the pictures.

OK, gotcha. They make the designations quite confusing. Thanks.

In what way? We had HD800 at $890, HD700 for $549, numerous great other holiday sales. Also sales on TDK products popping up on TJ Maxx and Marshalls shelves at well over 50% off. And now it is January and there are fewer deals.
Please don't behave like a person who thinks that the lowest price ever is the new regular price. After a shopping and sale season, any deal thread/site will not be in its prime.
You don't need to chime in to contribute nothing. Just move along if something isn't for you.
Thank you to this thread for the deals I've gotten (and at least considered) throughout the 2 months I've subscribed. I hope to continue sharing what deals I come along with the rest of you who Do Appreciate This thread.

Someone asked me to comment on the Blueant Embrace headphone that was on sale at Amazon for $40. I just checked, and they are still $40 at Amazon, so these comments may be relevant to anyone thinking about purchasing these.

http://www.amazon.com/BlueAnt-Embrace-Stereo-Headphones-Remote

To me, they are a very interesting headphone. Some had described the bass as really mushy and muffled. And for them that killed the sound.

Agreed on the point that they are muffled in the bass. But the bass quality is like a thick fluid, not like a pillow on top of your ears as you would think when you hear the word "muffled". So it actually makes for a very interesting and engaging listening experience with the right music.

The midrange itself is clear and delicate, and it's mesmerizing to hear it cut through the warmish, fluid bass at certain points in the music. Treble is quite subdued and pleasant.

I would call these a big fail at the original $199 price point. At $40, I'm enjoying them, but I could see how some folks would absolutely hate this sound signature.

Btw, I say I'm enjoying them because I use them for a very specific purpose: they are my nightstand phones. The warm, fluid bass and clear, delicate midrange make for a nice sound to fall asleep to. Also perfect for the is the on-the-ear form factor. Over-the-ear phones simply do not work when the back of the cups are pressed against the pillow (and into the back of your ears). These sit right on your ears on top of the pillow.

When going to sleep, I listen to ambient music (Harold Budd station on Pandora), and these phones work perfectly for me in that capacity.

If you are into beat heavy music, or solid, tight bass, however, you will not like these phones. For more amorphous music that focuses more on tone than rhythm, these may be very nice.

Probably because there's a page of discussion for every deal so you have to look through pages of crap since everyone feels the need to give their opinion of the deal, opinion of the headphone, and tell us if they purchased it, then reply to others also. I stopped looking a few weeks before it closed and they made this, but isn't that why they closed it and moved it here? Which was so they could discuss stuff and have more freedom, but it's much less convenient for anyone that wants to just see what is on sale. If I want to know whether or not I should buy the headphone, I'll search the forum for reviews of it and Chaco CCC for price trends.

Bottlehead Mainline flagship headphone amp kit - $200 off to $999 good until 1/15 for all you DIYers out there!

http://www.bottlehead.com/store.php/products/mainline-headphone-amplifier-kit

I've had the experience of building two Bottlehead products in the Crack and Quickie, and both have performed far outside its price bracket. The Crack was as good as the WA7 imo for high impedance headphones, and the Quickie was a "What kind of sorcery is this?!?!" moment where I wondered how something so cheap ($99) could perform so well. It's pulling most of the weight in my HD800 chain, even more so than the Crack.

If I hadn't recently spend close to $1000 on the HD800, I would be tempted to get that. Actually their flagship preamp, the BeePre, interests me far more just basing off how well the Quickie is performing. :D
