Looking for a good place to purchase new headphones

Hey all!

I've narrowed down my choices for a headphone to the Phillips X1 or the Beyer DT990. I'll be running either one with my Asus Xonar STX or through my on board sound through my laptop (Yea I know, not too awesome). I'll mainly (80%) of the time be using it with the Xonar though. Still having a hard time in choosing between them as they seem to be similar though the X1 seems to be described as a better version of the 990. I'll be using it for gaming as well as music/movies/TV.

I'll be pairing this with an Antlion ModMic for my more "competitive" gaming.

I'm looking to see where I can buy either one of them as I have no real idea as to where I can buy them. I'm looking for something in the states, mainly around NY. Online is good, I'm looking to ship it somewhere for someone to bring it to me.

Any help would be awesome as I'm looking to buy kinda quickly, thanks!

Heya,

Here's a simple break down:

DT990 - Brighter treble, a little more mid-bass (compared to X1). Replaceable ear pads.

X1 - Pads are not replaceable.

Both will run from the STX with ease. The X1 will run from your laptop with ease. The DT990 will be variable based on which version you get (32ohm, 250ohm, 600ohm) so is more limited with the laptop depending which one you get.

Amazon is a great place to buy either. Great return policy. And you can get a warehouse deal to save some cash if you are ok with used/refurb.

For the money the DT990 PRO 250ohm is generally around $160 and is a steal at that price.

Very best,

Very best,

Thanks for the reply! These will be my first set of headphones (ever, I normally stayed away from them cause I had some surgery on my ears when I was a kid) and I want to make sure my purchase is the best I can possibly get.

Just a few questions,

1. Is the pads not being replaceable that big of an issue?

2. What does brighter treble necessarily mean? As in the higher notes are more pronounced and slightly painful, as I've read that the DT990 has a slightly painful sibilance.

Comfor though is a huge thing for me, but they seem to be rated the same level of comfort. I've got a smallish head so I don't think I need to do any of those stretching mods.
