IC: Fischer Audio FA-002w "High Edition" (Karelian Birch)
Will Ship To: Anywhere
Since I mostly use IEMs when I need isolation these days, I've decided to let go of these wonderful phones. I've owned (and cherished them) for a while and they've outlasted some pretty amazing phones I've had (including the HD800). That certainly doesn't make them better.. just that they possessed some qualities I found very valuable.
Fischer Audio has discontinued the "High Edition" line and trotted out the Ti line in it's place.. which (based on my conversations with FA) is essentially a lower impedance version of the (~200 ohm) High Edition. What makes the High Edition better (IMO) than the new Ti line is that the higher impedance of the HE allows you to use the Crack with OTL tube amps (with which it tends to have incredibly synergy with). CIP: my Bottlehead Crack. Like the HD600, the HE sounds nothing short of gorgeous off of it.
LFF reviewed these phones quite some time back. I've commented on them in that thread as well. AVGuide put together, what I would consider, one of the most accurate reviews on them, too. I tend to hear things the way Chris Martens does, and I felt he nailed the take on the 002w HE. What the HE needs is a well matched amp. The HE took some time to 'break in,'.. after this, I found them less picky with amplification than they were ootb.. but a smooth, full, transparent ss amp or clean, open tube amp seems to sound best with them.
I purchased these phones from MusicaAcoustics. My 002w-HE has beautiful Karelian Birch wood cups. Dmitri Trush (who runs MA) actually has a pair of these (with Karelian Birch) himself and mentioned the KB cups were his favorite. He wasn't kidding. For the collectors out there who are interested, my 002w's are even rarer than the ones offered from FA since these are from a "Limited Edition-Japan" run (as evidenced by the cup engraving).
My HE is in mint condition.. it's never left my living room.. and has only ever been used by me. My home is kid/pet/dirt/clutter/stress-free. IT will come with all original accessories and the excellent FA carrying case. Since FA has discontinued these phones, it's tough for me to gauge interest and set a price.. which is why I'm open to offers on them. I purchased them for ~$400 from MA in February of this year. I'n not expecting $400, but tell me what you thing is a fair price and depending on interest, we'll go from there.
