Can an portable amp improve SQ  and give wider soundstage?

Player : Nokia 808 PureView

Didn't hear the R3 but based on the review I read it does not seem to go well with all genres:

A portable amp could improve soundstage but would cost you as much as a good IEM.

Plus it would it reduce portability with it attached to your Nokia device.

Best course of action here would be to dedicate all your budget to the best possible IEM.

You could always invest in an amp later if really needed.

Regarding the lost E30 tip, Comply foam tips would do the trick but also increase bass (careful)

Select tip finder on the top of the screen, they have the E30.

Lucius,

Actually FiiO E07 amp is coming free with R3. R3 + E07K amp = 130$

Zamorin,

Exactly! same problem with me but did it went away when you used E17 amp? Do you think amp is necessary in my case? but only way i can afford one is by buying an R3

Connecting the E17 via USB to the laptop made a difference. I rather get a good DAP like Sansa player than go for the external AMP/DAC route.

Try this link for GR07 in India (I can't vouch for it though):

+1

Any Sansa can drive both E30 and GR07 properly.

The SQ is also way better on my Sansa than on my iPhone.

A pretty good deal !

The SQ was the same. It just got louder but I was connecting it via audio-out instead of USB OTG. The problem with E17 USB OTG is that only one app - recorder pro can work with it (for android) unlike the E18. I can't be sure about pairing it with Nokia but I assume you won't hear any noticeable difference....and those Sansa player are very cheap and if you get better SQ, why not?

About Insufficient SQ, this problem has been completely solved

solution : Custom audio player software [TTpod V5.11] now SQ is truely HD 150% better than PC ones

I guess stock software was not coping up.

Now Bass is All deep and more punchy, sound-stage wide and clear. Improved highs. even without equalization.

I use the paid app - Poweramp with Noozoide with my GS3, still the SQ is nowhere near my laptop. I don't know if s/w itself can improve the SQ a lot nor do I know much about Nokia SQ.

How come you got the mk2 and not BE?  Do you have to pay import duty? Awaiting your review of them .:beerchug:

Since I like more balanced IEM I got MKII IF I needed a more fuller soundthen I would have got BE

and good news : No import fee

Now anxiously waiting for them to arrive

Congrats ! You're about to be Vsoniced

Let us know your impressions when you get them.

Maybe you could also ask for a Sansa player to Santa Claus ? Still the best budget DAP around IMO.

Install Rockbox and you're set ! Better SQ and many sound tweaking options to test.

I just ordered a Sansa Clip Zip from Amazon for $35 but they charge $20 for shipping. Is this model the best of Sansa players?

Most popular is Clip. IT was 30$ earlier + 25$ shipping to India, So I was better off with my 808

Sandisk currently has 3 DAP in its range:

Player Name Capacity Color Screen Special Features
Sansa Fuze+ Sansa Fuze+

  • Black
  • Blue
  • White
  • Purple
  • Red
2.4" QVGA, full color bright Video
Sansa Clip Zip Sansa Clip Zip

  • Black
  • Grey
  • Orange
  • Red
  • White
  • Purple
  • Blue
  • Lime
  • Teal
1.1" OLED, full color Stop Watch
MP3 Player: Sansa Clip+ MP3 Player: Sansa Clip+

  • Black
  • Purple
  • White
  • Blue
  • Red
  • Lime
  • Teal
0.96" OLED, 2 colors

I own the Clip+ and only tried the Clip Zip. I'd say they sound identical.

Just plug in a microSD card and here you go.

I also noticed that my microSD card was too slow for the Zip to load its content (not sure why since data transfer speed depends on the Sansa's firmware).

About the capacity, 32Go works just fine and so do 64Go cards. Using Sandisk firmware, capacity is around 8000 files max. Up to around 10000 using Rockbox ;)

The price you got seems fine. You could probably have gotten it cheaper with a special sale offer but hey what the hell.

The Zip has color and bigger screen compared to Clip+. The Fuze seems too big compared to the other 2 and could be annoying having touch feature.

IMO you did well :) The Clip line is the best compromise in term of portability, storage, cost and SQ.
