Official/ New York Spring Meet Sat April 5 2014 - Page 27

I've never been able to make one of these before, and I have to say I still don't completely get it. I'd be happy to bring headphone stuff, but it's mostly middling stuff. I have the Senn 650's, but they don't seem like there'll be a shortage of these around, have the Shure 1540. A step down, I have the Senn Amperiors, Beyer 1350, Yamaha, Pioneer, AT A900x, and some others in $100-200 range. Same for iem's, have mostly middling iem's, many noted in Discovery Thread, including recent "hot" items from JVC Woodies, Heaven V, old Westone W3 and W4, Ohm, Sony H3, and a bunch of similar offerings. Ampwise, have ALO National, use with Fiio X3, also have 2 iPod touch and an amp for them, portable. Do people bring stuff like this? Do people listen to other stuff not on display? Do people all set up displays for this kind of stuff? Do people listen to other people's iem's? (I'm not so fussy, but I can imagine most people would be). How much cash is good to bring if you might like to buy stuff (or, will anyone take a credit card? I took out $500, but that doesn't go so far these days, hestiant to carry around much more, though). I know, probably annoying questions, but I really am wondering about all this. Looking forward to the show, can't wait, thanks for any info!!!!!

In addition to the OPPO PM-1, I think I also managed to cram the following into my carry-on:

  • FiiO X5 with 128GB card with some music
  • Sony Walkman NW-ZX1
  • Astell&Kern AK240
  • Sennheiser HD 26 Pro
  • Sony PHA-2
  • Fostex HP-V1 (tube / solid state hybrid portable amp)
  • Geek Out 1000
  • AudioQuest Dragonfly (with Dragon Tail)
  • Meridian Explorer
  • Chord Electronics Hugo (pre-production, but sounds the same as production)

I think that's everything.

See y'all in the morning!

I went to the meet in Babylon last year and it's all in good fun. Audiophiles of all ages were there and while none of my equipment is anywhere close to Summit-Fi, there was still a lot of interest in my M-100 as they were relatively new at the time. I'm bringing the XS which is V-MODA's updated M-80 along with a FiiO E17/E9 combo. All my gear + laptop as source doesn't equal the cost of an HD800, but I'm sure someone will find something interesting. We all have different budgets and priorities in this world. I'm a budget audiophile :)
