looking for producer headphones to pair my studio monitors best. beyerdynamic, akg?

hey folks,

I recently bought a pair of adam a7x studio monitors for my little home studio, which I absolutely love. they sound super detailed but still so natural and airy in the high end.

but I don't want to terrorize my neighbors with building kicks and stuff too much during the night hours :). plus, my monitors (like most monitors with 7inch woofers) are lacking a little bit of low end (somewhere from <= 40hz), which I would like to compensate with headphones as well. I mainly produce kinda bass heavy music (drum n bass), but I'm actually laying the most emphasis on a detailed and airy sound in the mids and highs.

I am looking for headphones that have similar sound characteristics as monitors (maybe somebody here knows the adams?), with a little more low end to them... I am not looking for bass monsters, it should just sound like the right amount (a little bit low shelf is fine) and go deep.

so I'm mainly looking for flat headphones (maybe with a little bit bass shelf) for producing, but it would be great if just listening to music on them would still be enjoyable :)

and yeah, I guess they probably should be open or semi-open.

I would power them with a focusrite scarlett 2i4 audio interface/headphone jack, which seems not to have too much juice in it (maybe like an average pc headphone jack).... is this a problem? will 250 ohms still work fine?

the price should be max. 250 bucks (euro).

so far I shortlisted these models here:

- beyerdynamic dt 990 pro

- beyerdynamic dt 880 pro

- akg k701/2 (are they still lacking so much bass? I've read that the newer ones have more bass now...I kinda always liked the akg sound)

- audio technica ath-m50

can somebody recommend headphones that will suit me best?

so yeah, thank you very much :)

I do like my Dt990s, great for movies and music, but I do not think their full bass and full treble would give you the best audio feedback you would need for audio production.

DT880s are a more balanced sound.

I would think using the AKG 7XX series would be a good choice, if you can hear the bass with the 7XX series, then any other headphone and speaker will be able to also reproduce the bass.

Audio Technica ATH-M50s, good for listening to music (full bass), U shaped sound (kind of like the DT990), but could easy be driven by the Focusrite, but I would think there are better headphones for the use you are looking for (audio production).

Maybe get the AKG K612 Pro headphones and an external headphone amplifier?

hey, I quite overlooked the k612, but I think they could be the ones I've been looking for :). Sadly they don't have a detachable cable... but I can live with that. On the other hand they are really affordable.

thanks man!

Shure SRH840

Or the best for studio use: German Maestro GMP 8.35 D (indestructible too)
