Searching for PC headphones

Hello all,

First off I'd like to say that this forum is absolutely FILLED with useful information and has aided me with some much needed knowledge on audio. Even though I'm still a noob haha.

Next it's probably helpful to know that I've owned a Tritton Warhead 7.1 headset for my xbox which I find is absolutely amazing for gaming but really just decent for most everything else.

After many hours of research I think I've found what I'm searching for in my new pair of headphones is comfort and sound quality. Those are the most important. So I think open back over ear headphones are the way to go. I will be using them mostly for gaming and music but also movies/tv/videos sometimes. My main genres I listen to are rap and metal/hard-core but I still listen to almost anything. Also a competitive edge is important so I would like good positional accuracy. Build quality isn't really a must but it would be appreciated.

I'm really looking for headphones but headset recommendations are cool too if they can compete. My price range maxes out at $300.

Another thing to note is that I'll be using it on an Alienware m18x r3 that I don't have yet so I don't know what kind of sound card it has and I could not find it on the Web.

If you can also reccomend an amp(if needed) to go with the headphones you suggest it would be beyond helpful.

EDIT:some cans that I've been looking into are the akg k701 k702 q701 sony ma600 Beyerdynamic t1 Tesla Beyerdynamic mmx 300 (headset) logitech g930 (headset) and some others that I've forgot because I've looked at SO many.
