Hi everyone,

I'll go straight to the point: in your opinion, which one is better to listen to EDM? The HiFiMan HE-400 or the Philips Fidelio X1?

    VS

Which one has more bass? Which one has better-quality bass?

Comfort, design, driveability, etc... are not a factor. I want you to focus on musicality, enjoyment and fun. For EDM.

HE-400 will be modded with velour pads / grill mod if need be. Don't know of any mods for the X1.

Amp will be a Schiit Lyr.

Thanks!

I have not heard the Fidelio, but I have the HE-400 and all I can say is that it is phenomenal for EDM. Amazingly tight, textured, deep bass that really shines with this kind of music. It clearly layers synths and gives them lots of nice crunch.

EDIT: Also, for HE-400 mods, jergpads are your friends. The holes are very easy to cut if you don't feel like going all the way with the velour stitching part. Much better for EDM than the velours. The jergs keep the sound nice and dark while cleaning up the mids, whereas the velours push everything into the bright side and dry up the bass too much IMO. But the velours are cheap, still worth trying.

AGREED, ehm yea I also like the HE 400 for EDM. Yea ppl RAVE about the X1 but PFF dude the HE 400 has something the X1 doesnt... LINEAR BASS from like 30hz to 1k [yea it's linear from bass to low mids] ehm so for EDM it's very epic

although I sold mine cuz I only listen to EDM at work... in which i Need some isolation !

Thanks for the answers. All the votes went to the HE-400 until now!

Looking at the different reviews, I think I'd prefer the HiFiMan too. Too bad the HE-400 is costing 85 USD more than the Fidelio X1 in Europe...

Well, that's not such a big deal, but the HiFiMan's are really expensive in Europe compared to the US. Cheapest HE-400 I found is 490 USD (360 EUR). Fidelio X1 is 405 USD (299 EUR).

Anybody who listen to EDM and have tried both headphones? Better: anybody who possess both headphones and would be so kind to do some sort of comparative review centered around EDM?

Thanks!

Huh... yeah. That's the one I was talking about. Cheapest I could find. 360 EUR / 490 USD. I could obviously find it much cheaper in the US, but with shipping + duty fees (+30%) - and the fact that I can't return them easily, it's not worth it.

It's not that expensive and I'm totally okay with the price, it's just that you can find it much cheaper in the US.

I blindly consider that IEuro = 1 US $, otherwise I will go crazy with the pricing of audio gear in EU . I dont see a reason why you may want to return HE 400 :L3000:.

Haha you really like the HE-400. Hope I won't have to return it, but you can never be too sure...

Any other opinions?

I wonder why the people that voted for the x1 didn't add anything to the discussion of why they think it's better.

Why it's better... ugh well it's ... a bass heavy head phone. I mean it's a very warm bassy open can!  With a very Consumer Friendly sound, upgrading from a [What I assume is a REV 3] HP 100 a X1 would be a nice upgrade. The warmth and bass of the HP 100 with some added sound stage an detail
