Everything is in the title: in your opinion, what is the best headphone amp to pair with a HiFiMan HE-400, for less than $500?

Thanks :)

For portable use try one of Neco's V4 under $400 for the most souped up one....and for a desktop, save your money and just get a Little Dot 1+ hybrid tube...for less than $200. Yes I have both and while I could spend heaps more I hear all my jazz redbook cds with clarity, detail, punch, and soundstage with just my humble Senn HD420s and HD650s. I am eager to add a third and like what I've read about the HiFiman line.

Good Hunting.  Alex

I would go for Audio gd 11.32 or Audio gd 15.32 (if I am on a tight budget). Both can drive wide range of cans.

Really, the HE400 is an efficient headphone. It doesn't take much to drive it to it's full potential. Go for the device that has the features and range you want, and think about the future, and buy accordingly.

Very best,
