It is also very important  to get a good DAC, as on-board audio will significantly limit the quality of music arriving through your cans.  I wish that I could help you more with this, but my serious music listening does not involve a computer.

You should also assure that you are listening to quality music files as well.  Standard MP3's don't make the grade.

Hello KG,

Thanks for the inputs, will try to find a shop where i can listen to Senn HD 650, but probably may not be possible with the combo you've suggested.

Also, what is your recommendation on Beyerdynamics ? Any good ones i can think of ?

Btw, if i am considering Beyerdynamics, should i go for a 250ohm or 600ohm.. (will be getting an amp anyway.)

Majority of my music is in FLAC /WAV format.. a few of them for whcih i cannot find the CD, will be mp3 or some downloaded version.

Regards,

Prashant

If you visit spencer plaza, Chennai, you buy original audio cds. I have about 200 audio cds (tamil) at home. I will convert them into FLAC format when I go back home :)

regarding dac/amp, consider also Audio gd 15.32 or 11.32. You can look at them in http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.audiophonics.fr%2F&langpair=fr|en&hl=en&ie=UTF8 or http://www.4hifi.pl/

Have you looked at HE 400 or HE 500?

Hi Rubinstein,

Thanks, i am aware about my wallet conditions  since i have been through my audio journey (non headfi gear) - purely 2.0 and am slowly getting onto Headfi since i am sort of travelling due to work requirements and cant settle down with a large room setup in every location i go.. so my movement slightly towards headfi..

For Chennai: if you know the shop details, please pass them to me, will ask my friend to visit.

Btw, where are you located ?

I havent started listening to various headsets and amplifier combinations yet. I need to start that.

'Music World' near Ramdass Theatre, Thrissur. Since my source is not much of an audiophile, I won't know how good the quality will be. Probably can contact them directly to query.

Thanks Zamorin, i will visit this place when i am there next vacation.

I visited the audio cd shop in Spencer plaza few years ago (2006). If you can access to audio cd shops in  Coimbatore, I can suggest you few. where are you originally from?
