Well i think Fiio did after all a good job with the design of the X1 and as long as it is usable and has a good SQ the rest shouldn't matter much. I mean is this a Thread for Artists or for Headfier?D I'm looking forward to buy it.

Agreed. Sure, the product should look good, but what's more important?

Please Fiio, really spend much more time on making:

- A well built body

- A good user interface

- A reasonably good battery

... than on choosing which color should the player be released in (for example).

Eh, options as far as color are nice.  Usually they won't do much to increase the overall production cost, and it goes a step in making the customer happy.  We all have a favorite color out there, and its not like we're buying cars from Henry Ford.  Now I in no way mean looks on a DAP should be focused on, but its a nice touch.

EXACTLY!!!

FiiO has done a good job on the User Interface it seems on the X5, and there is NO DOUBT that all their devices are well built. FiiO has already proven themselves time and time again that they can deliver on top notch built quality. So there is no need to worry about that aspect.

BUT as i have stated before, making the X1 EXACTLY the same as the X5 ( jr. X5 as some has expressed) is the easy way out. Where is the innovation, advancement, and creativity in that??? Yes, this thread is not for "artists" whatever that means, but as a fellow head-fier who is really looking forward to buy the X1 because i was attracted to FiiOs initial concept for the X1. I was utterly disappointed by how the X3 and X5 turned out (despite both seems to sound great) in turns of how the buttons are placed and the rubber mechanical wheel.  I was thinking/ hoping that the X1 will be FiiOs "game changer" and that i can finally buy one of their DAPs because there will be further refinements in not just the overall design and user interface but the scroll wheel and the buttons as well. We haven't seen the final design of the X1 yet so the jury is still out, but based on what james has posted and said it literally will look like a jr. X5 and not what we had expected from the initial concepts.

This is why i like FiiO as a company so much because unlike Hifiman and ibasso, etc, they actually allow head-fiers to contribute and vote what they want in their products. The FiiO E12 DIY Limited Edition is a great example of this, james not only allowed head-fiers to vote on what they wanted internally for that amp, but also allowed the users to pick the color they wanted. James even came through with an extra gold color scheme instead of just the silver one even though no one had asked for it. LoL

So bravo bravo to FiiO and james for being so open minded/ considerate to us head-fiers and THAT is what makes FiiO so unique and their threads so great. They give us the opportunity to contribute and express what we want from their future products and deliver on it. There are only a few manufacturers that does that, V-Moda is another great example. I don't even want to waste my time posting on Hifiman/ ibasso threads because they just sell their products as is and don't take the time to really listen to their customers/ what us head-fiers truly want/ have to say tbh.

If it sounds like i was whining too much about the color schemes and design of the X1s, etc etc etc it was just my attempt to express what i as well as many here feel about the latest developments of the X1. So lets just hope that this little $100 DAP will be a true game changer for FiiO because it will be their 3rd attempt in refining their DAP lineup so they should hit a home run instead of just making a smaller version of a X5 is what i feel.

Once FiiO refines/ finalized their scroll wheel/ buttons design they can literally just copy and paste it onto their future lineups with minor tweaks/ polish just like that famous fruit company which seems more logical to do so earlier than later imo.

Two thinks i asked miself which are still unanswered is will the X1 have some protection on the screen like Gorilla Glass or do we need to care about that on ourself ?

And the other think is will there be the opportunity to test the X1 on a Fair? For exampe the CanJam in September

I am pretty sure it will comes with screen protector sticker, just like every other X series player. But Gorilla Glass? That's asking a lot.

Maybe i'm a bit to worried about he screen to break or got totally scrached, sorry :D

I'm wondering if this is going to be a clear downgrade sound quality wise from the X3, or will they view the X3 as their pilot model and not be afraid to undercut it with a cheaper, as good sounding X1?

I think the x3 will distinguish itself as being more feature rich than the x1

Besides the DAC feature, which other features does the X3 have?

That will depend on what you're using with them - X1's amp was designed primarily for IEMs. If you're using headphones, whether with IEMs also or not, best go with X3; X1 was made smaller and with some penalty in power output more than in battery life to be better suited for portability along with a pair of IEMs.

something about the ID design of X1:

1, as you all can see, the UI between X3 and X5 is quite different . the X5 is far more better, not only looks better , but also more easy to control.  and it is very difficult to us to create another UI ( in fact, it includes the UE).

so, we  have to keep the same bottom layout,

2, we will use the same UE in X1, X3K, and X5, so the firmware undating will become more easy, of course , it will good for end customers too. otherwise we have to manage so many different kind of UI ( you can think it is some kind of OS). or

we just stop the firmware updating for old model.

3, the final ID is different as all the design released before. it look more better and we will start the design of tooling mold soon, otherwise we have to dealy the schedule.

4, About the color, more color option for x1, but we may keep the black color for X3K, because we may change the ID design a little and use it in X3K, of course, it is not the final decision. because it is very easy to change the color . we will

think about it in the future if we have better idea.

hope you guys can understand , now it is very difficult to design a very good ID, and UI,  so, you can see there are not big difference between iPhone4/4S/5/5S.
