Dear FiiO,

Any plan for a budget friendly ($150) tube amp to pair with this X1 or/and the X series?

On the side note, for most of the threads I read about FiiO specs for their future product, there is always things like "cost problems" maybe FiiO should too challenge themselves for a ultra high end amp/DAC or/and DAP xD

Your fan,

Billson

1, Not plan for QC issues .

2, Marketing, we try to be price friendly to end customer, and there are so many high end DAPs so you don't need another one.

Does that mean that FiiO will mainly focus on affordable sound in the coming years? Indeed FiiO did extremely well with budget friendly audio amp/DAC and DAP but it would be interesting to see FiiO make something of higher end hehe

If it makes you happy, FiiO can probably sell you an X5 for $800 or the future X7 for $1500, which should automatically makes them high-end player, if you know what I mean ;)

yes, the high end market is very narrow and lots of brand compete with each others. also we need to go ahead step by step, good for FiiO and good for customer.

Haha xD X7... That reminds me hope it features Spotify (hopefully Brunei support it by the time it is released), internet surfing so that we can use it to come here, Head-Fi xP

Joke aside though, I believe some of my local unknown reseller of FiiO will sell them that* high although I do know one whose price is much more reliable and resonable ._.

Can't agree more! High end can only focus on Head-Fi, yet, not all of us here willing to pay for the price of a AK100 leave alone AK240

Alright did some last minute MS Paint and is just gonna throw this out there..........................

Includes:

  • Menu Button
  • Back Button
  • Next Track Button
  • Previous Track Button
  • Center button for Pause/Play/Select

Just like this 1st render:

Dat FiiO Wheel.

.... From using the ipod i noticed that the "back" button is used A LOT, so the outer ring here will serve as two important functions. The FiiO logo will be the "menu" button but the rest of the outer ring will serve as the back button as well. It's logical that the "back" function takes most of the ring area due to it being used the most.

I REALLY like the look of this scroll wheel FiiO initially came up with for the X1 concept tbh.

*  *........ it seems MUCH more classy and premium than the rubber one currently used on the X5. The mechanical moving rubber wheel of the X5 just looks so fragile and cheap.  Not talking about the crappy glossy looking outer ring why of course but the scroll wheel itself. :)

......A silver version of this "metal" scroll wheel should look really nice as well on the X1, cuz i had no idea the wheel on the X5 was a moving one unlike the ipods. haha  : P

Anywho back to more concept wheel designs......

.... this one is pretty much the same as the one above but instead of the FiiO logo as the "menu" button, the very outer ring is split in 2 halves just like the inner ring. The right side of the ring will serve as the "menu" button, while the left side of the ring will be the "back" button. Kinda more logical to arrange it that way.

BUT if FiiO can improve the scroll wheel to be like that of an ipod without you having to physically turn the wheel like so.....

................ and if the scroll wheel can be made into a click button itself.

Then the FiiO scroll wheel will truly be amazing looking just like the wheel of the DAP above!!!

..... if FiiO improves the scroll wheel to be like that of the DAP above which the thumb simply glides on the surface of the wheel instead of having to physically turn the wheel to scroll, then the wheel can double as a button in itself. And since the "back" button is the most important/ most often used function, it being part of the scroll wheel makes it best for fast and easy access.

Hmmm actually having the "select/ok" button built into the scroll wheel when clicked seems more logical/ intuitive.... haha

Thoughts???

I like the last wheel design the best tbh, cuz it will be so classy looking. Probably even better than the current ipod wheel. : P

If we just have to touch the wheel to turn like how the current iClassic do, then there may be legal issue. Because Apple may reserve the right to sue FiiO for that. Physical wheel should be able to avoid that (?) but other than that, good idea! XD

Except that Apple does not have that right. The touch wheel was invented by Synaptics, which Apple bought from them (Synaptics was the manufacturer). Apple stole the click wheel from a Japanese engineer, was sued by that engineer, and lost.

Mechanical wheel is a very, very bad idea. The first generation iPods used mechanical wheels. Apple dropped the design rather quickly because it is a badly flawed design.

^ If FiiO only sold within China they wouldn't have to worry about no stinkin' patents. haha

Cuz you can pretty much legit bootleg ANY design there. LMAO

Don't ya' just love Da' Chinese. :)

^ Good points, that's why i was so shocked to see a moving mechanical wheel on the X5s cuz i didn't really follow that thread until it was almost released.

Saw that wheel in action from a vid and was like ehhh, was not what i was expecting. LoL

Hope the X1 will be FiiOs chance to refined their wheel design so they can just slap the same design on their future lineups with only minor tweaks. :)

Oh so on that note c'mon FiiO just take the wheel on this DAP and run with it. : P

This is one of the better ipod wheel knockoffs i have seen to date tbh, cuz the materials used seem REALLY premium.

edit: Let me quote someone here......

"Steve Jobs who famously said in 1996: "Picasso had a saying -- 'good artists copy; great artists steal' -- and we have always been shameless about stealing great ideas."

You just got to OWN the wheel design and make it yours FiiO. Steal sooooo good that you can claim it as you own creation, just like apple. hoho

actually the scroll wheel was invented by creative labs, and creative labs sued apple in 2006 for adding scroll wheel into iPods. And creative labs won.

I would have sworn it was the menu interface that Creative sued over and won. Regardless, there's no hardware and little software in iPod that was invented at Apple. It's all off the shelf parts and licensed technologies.
