The FiiO X1 Discussion and Help and Support Thread |192K/24B|100mW | LO | inline remote - Page 47

post #691 of 7658
I think for those who wishes FiiO to make a better design, maybe try drawing on your own, a design on what X1 should look like smily_headphones1.gif

^ I believe this was what some of you meant? The scroll wheel may suffer a little. As it got smaller. May be harder to turn IMO

Red= Screen
Silver= Buttons
Yellow= FiiO's wheel
Green= Casing

Thread Starter

we have not choice if we want a better user experience. or wheel  or touch screen ( not less than 3 inch ). and not matter what we design , there will have someone say it is copy cat of iPod.

Ok James,

I understand that the DAP has to be a somehow rectangular box with a screen of sorts but....

do you (for example) need a clickwheel at all with, on top of it, some buttons placed vertically or horizontally or....whatever?

can't you just get rid, for example, not of the rectangualr box (you can't), not of the screen (you better not! :D), but the wheel?....I'm sure your designer(s) would be able to improve on the now seen over and over again wheel thingo.

Can't you?

:wink_face:

Don't go back to an old ipod design.

Take it to the next level!

I think the clickwheel is usefull for navigation through musiclibaries with a lot of songs. So please keep it in the design. ^^

My view:

1. Make it sound great.

2. Include an easy-to-use UI, like that of the X5.

3. Make it sturdy (again, like the X5).

4. Make it look nice, but easy to operate with one hand.

 I just do not understand, why the buttons are not marked (play,pause etc), as well as like in X5. Besides the buttons in one row  (horizontal or vertical)  would be also more ergonomical to use IMO.

The left one is more consistent with the X5 design ID.

X1 looks way better than X5 imo.

Funny how I don't remember people saying that about one of the versions of the Fuze, except for die-hard Apple fans. It's not really a dealbreaker for me, especially when the wheel makes it easy to use without resorting to a touchscreen.

Lol, this thread is a mess with all the design stuff. For what it's worth I like the right one best, more elegant.

Controls on the side wouldn't be half bad either. Well, just something easily accesible and recognisable wouldn't be half bad.

It's $100 or so... I think design should be the least important issue. UI and SQ are far more important imo... Hell, look at the clip sport. SQ and UI dropped the ball somewhat, and people took notice. I sure as heck won't be buying one. However, if the X1 has decent SQ and UI, I'll probably buy 2... An extra one for whenever the first one dies.

^ If you guys have to go with this look, the render on the right looks a lot better for me due to the smaller size of the inner silver ring.

If you are going to copy, mind as well copy it well, so how about this one. Just throwing ideas out there from all the designs so far.

Not sure how realistic is it to make each ring a functional button in themselves but here goes nothing. Couple of minutes with MS Paint. :tongue_smile:

.... if each ring is a button you can click from anywhere without having to move/ reach your thumb too far from the wheel unlike the 4 buttons on the very outer edges in the lastest renders. Also the buttons are now in a vertical/ horizontal straight row which makes access and clicking much faster. This also makes it easy to click the buttons from anywhere no matter if you are a left or right handed person. The 8 white dots are just for looks to show the "X" motif as it was used in the original renders of these X1s.

Stole the idea from this DJ Hero setup. haha

................ each of the rings (green, red, blue and inner white ring) functions as individual buttons but is still within the wheel design.

..................... the very inner ring can also be split into halves so there are both back/forward buttons which makes it more logical to navigate.  I seem to have forgotten to add a "next" track button/ring in the 1st pic. haha : P

BUT if the scroll wheel ring can also be made into a "next" track button when you click on it that would be amazing.

edit: Oh also if the scroll wheel can be made to looks like the silver one on this DAP, that would be really nice as well.

.... a gun metal grey color scroll wheel would look so BOSS!!! :cool:
