Then even at $100 it wouldn't be that good of a deal. If that was the case I would start think about keeping my $100 or using it elsewhere. Us consumers are supposed to fight for the most for our $$$. Hey, just keep giving more away, lol!

The X5 is considered a high end DAP. Power aside, most portable headphone does not need that much power to drive unless you are thinking of carrying things like HE-500 but neither the X5 can drive it, you will still need at least, a E12 to "drive it" majority of us uses IEM as our portable headphone, don't see the need of high power output IMO

As mentioned X5 is a high end DAP, asking for at least 75% of X5 SQ in X1? Why not get the X3 instead xP after all it is a $100 DAP, from what I know, non of the sub-$100 DAP uses such DAC like the X1 do and 24/192 support?

Manufacturers are also fighting for a living xD

sound quality doesn't relate linearly with price...

In audio there is quite a bit of difference in 25%. Then it is even more considering with the significant drop in output power. Geez just want about 60%(possibly two thirds) net from the headphone out when it is all said and done. Not below 50%.

Maybe try finding a used X3?

Keep in mind the subjective listening.

The X5 cost more than 3 times more than the X1. I would expect the X3 to sound at least 50%-60% of X5 since it is just half price difference but the X1 is 3 times and more though @.@

+1 to this.

I guess I'll get a used X3, or I can get a job for an X5. Preferably a bank teller job (already applied for one for more than just the use of money for audio). Anyway, thanks for the important info and advice.

If it's at least a bit better than a Clip, I'll buy one.

If not, it's a bit difficult to justify the difference in price. Sure, it's cheap. But even cheaper is the Clip.

I recall JamesFiiO mention that the FiiO X1 is an audiophile DAP for $100, not meant to compare with Sansa or iPod. Something like that he said, correct me if I am wrong

yes, there are something that X1 can do but others can't

1, 192k/24b bit to bit support.

2, Better DAC chip

3, Bigger output power. ( the output power of Sansa , iPod is less than 25mW ).

I think X1 will be the cheapest  DAP which supports 192/24

yes, unless you are used a big screen like 3.0' or 3.5', it is quite difficult to find a sound track on a 2.4' touch screen .

also, the cost is a big problem!

When is the expected release date? I'd love to test a pre-release unit since I use iems much more than full-size headphones...I really liked the X5 a lot, but it's so much heavier than my J3. I could be swayed by this thing if it sounds better than the J3, but maybe that's asking too much of a $100 dap...anything is possible, though, right? The J3 is getting a bit long in the tooth...anyways, this looks very interesting to me, especially now that 128gb cards are out.

I like having a cheap but decent player for walking the dog, slinging in a bag on weekends away, keeping in my coat pocket, etc, etc...

Yep, looks nice - I hope it's as solidly built as the X5. If it sounds better than my J3, I'll definitely get one at that price. I think it could even outsell the X5, especially in Asia.
