Thank you Darku. That's how I feel about the X1. Base is spelt bass in music though.

It has made me very curious about the x5 now. I enjoy the sound of this player a great deal and I found that it is more dynamic via the line out.

Does anyone know why gapless is switchable? Does it save power to turn the feature off?

Get the card ready quick!!!!!

I bought a couple of 128 Gb yesterday on EBay. That should be enough for now.

Been enjoying mine for a couple days now. Bass could use a bit of taming though, but nothing too difficult for a quick EQ tweak smily_headphones1.gif

Just discovered that my notebook has a built-in SD card reader/writer and my micro sdxc came with an SD adapter so I can get going and fill the card.

Is formatting in fat32 still needed with X1 or does its software now work with 64 gb cards right out of the packaging (I believe they are preformatted with exFAT)?

And what's best - use ITunes (my CDs are already there as alacs)? If using drag and drop to copy files in windows, what folder structure works best?

You can use the x1's format option in the settings for the sd card. Careful though, I lost all files on the card when I did this. Not sure if you should format before adding files.

Just wondered whether I can already start filling the card without waiting for the X1 which should arrive with the post tomorrow... With the X3 formatting to fat32 was necessary with older firmware revisions I believe.
Does anybody know whether X1 already supports exFAT?

Yes, I think it's on the way. I have about 200gb of music. So what I've done, is spread it across different cards, set up for different genres. That cuts searching a bit. I also have cards with different mixes. Sounds a bit ocd, but it helps with so many files.

I do agree, the lack of search is a pain, but that could well be on the way.

Hopefully..

I did contact James and Fiio direct re: search function and everyone told me it's not possible to add to the UI..?

"Too hard as it's not a touch screen and has a scroll wheel" iPod Classics & Nanos have search with their scroll wheel.. I'm sure hoping they add it in as it's very disappointing.

I understand it's too hard to add to a X3 but surely they can add it to the X1 & X5 :-)
If Apple can do it, I think Fiio can do it.

It's warmer than the Ipods and has more weight in the bass on headphones. From line out it's even better. The output direct from the headphone socket is also a bit more robust in sound. It provides a little more volume for those headphones that are on the cusp of being too soft on the IPod.

The Ipod interface is better I think, but sound is more important to me. I hate using ITunes and everything is so slow with Ipods and computers when you have a lot of files. I much prefer drag and drop.

I'm really pleased with the X1 although it has its own set of quirks too. At its price, it's a great performer.

Thanks guys, this sounds promising!

Recommendation to FiIO:

Just wanted to read the X1 user manual from your FIIO.com.cn website in advance to receiving the X1.
Did this from my iPad and discovered the manual is not downloadable as PDF but is instead packed in rar format.

Rar is great for programmers but not great for users - iPad doesn't support it, many normal users don't even now what rar is.

I remember from reading comments in a thread on the X3 that users there also had problems with installing revisions packed as rar. Maybe gorgeous firmware you need some packed format because you have more than one file.
But if it's only one file you shouldn't use rar - it just frightens less experienced users off ;-)

You mentioned you purchase SD cards off eBay, You can get great deals on eBay BUT its a known fact that 97% of SD cards on eBay are fakes. Make sure you d/load a SD card test and test each card properly.

128GB may take upto 6 or so hrs to test.

Most of these cheap eBay cards are all FAKE SD cards that have been tricked up. The packaging looks great and 100% like the genuine cards but this is what happened to me..

I purchased a 128GB Samsung SD card, looked too good to be true. Paid $50AUD from eBay.com.au (Local seller to me)
When arrived, I just put in the draw and forgot about it.

When I 1 day took a closer look at this card the packaging wasn't the best. The print on the packaging looked thick and not as clean print as a package you purchase from a retail shop.

I ran my H2testw on it.
It wrote 128gb of data. Took over 4.5h to write data. When it verified data. 7.6GB OK.
117.2GB Corrupted

117.2GB DATA LOST.

What it means is indeed, 100% Fake card. Very disappointing.

They only hold just under 8GB or so of data, though it will format as 128GB and display a complete listing of all files -- however, anything beyond 8GB or so is unreadable.
May as well Scrub out the 12 infront of the 8 and keep it as a 8GB card.

That's eBay for you. I'm buying my 128GB card from a retail store. Only way with memory cards.
Can not trust anyone in this world.

Too late to open PayPal dispute, This card was purchased 3 or 4 months before I tested it as I thought it was a good deal and kept it in my desk draw until I needed it.
Then I started reading forums about Fake cards and I thought I better test. Surprise surprise!!

In the end I paid $50 for a 8GB Micro SD card! Bummer. Learn with your mistakes I suppose.

Ok, I "read the ******* manual" from the FIIO website and it appears formatting 64 gb cards to fat32 is still necessary. The website has a download link for a formatter.
