I do not hate it personally since they have one of the smoothest system and I can always use an external DAC but it will definitely cost more than just getting a pair of FiiO X3 or possibly X5.

It really depends on what you are looking for IMO

if you don't like the sound quality, then don't buy them ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Personally, i went from 1st gen shuffle to 2nd gen shuffle to 2ng gen ipod touch, to iphone 4, to iphone 5. sound quality never really bothered me, bit i had crap earbuds/headphones at the time...

Not to say, i'm really happy with my X5.

That would still depend on how badly James and his team want to please the basshead market in an attempt to pry them away from their music playing smartphones.

If I were given 2nd choice, I will go for an iPad 2 with 128GB. Load it all with my music and get a CCK and connect *insert DAC/amp* there, I can watch movie, play my music etc while on the go biggrin.gif

FiiO, let's make it happen! A sub $300 DAP, touchscreen, wifi access that support Spotify, perfectly clean line out + coxial support and SD card.

The reason i stopped using my iphone was because it can't output anything over 320kbps, 48Mhz, 24bit.

Even with an external DAC.

With certain app, you can. I am currently using AmpliFlac, but it only support up to 192/24. I don't go anything higher than that anyway. Onkyo Player can play higher tot

I thought it was a hardware restriction, not a software restriction?

I can play any .flac file, it just gets downsampled...

Yes, hardware restriction. The software just downsamples it. You'll need a phone with a DAC supporting 24 bit files, e.g. Note 3.

I believe that with the Onkyo HD player, current Iphones/pads/touches will support up to 24/88 without downsampling via HO.

Without an app, they can do up to 24/44 wav or aiff natively. Not so bad and if you haven't heard the current touch screen players, one should reserve comment because they are not bad at all. Classics are long in the tooth and not as good sounding but you have to remember how much music they held compared to the competition before Sansa introduced removable storage and that was with much smaller capacity cards than today.

it is very easy for Note3 / S4/ S5 / SONY Z / MOTO X to supports up to 384k/32bit by APP, but the question is whether they are downsample or not, as I known that the VIVO X series is downsample to 48/16bit although it is famous by the build in ES9018M2K and some other hifi DAC chip inside.

also ,  the power management is a big problem for any hifi smartphone.

Sorry if this has been asked before but is there a definite date for its release already?

No hate for the Classic from me... it's just that Apple seems to have not given that segment much love lately and will likely let the iPhone be the player.  You will have to convince the average Joe that there is a reason to carry another piece of tech in his/her pocket just for music, and of course something besides those white ear buds might help.  I really like my iPod nano 5th generation.

FiiO said they will be doing a worldwide release this time together... but correct me if I am wrong, James :)
