Alright, lemme rephrase that then - you can still use a standard SD card in a microSD slot, but it still depends on one's tolerance for mess and preference for sleek looks :p

I could've sworn it said they were going to try to have it out by August, does anyone know a relative time they'll be releasing the X1?

August is probably the ETA for China. Everywhere else by September-October.

Is it also gonna have just 10-15hrs of playback time? This is a "not so hires" DAP so maybe you can put a higher capacity battery to have at least 25 hours or so of playback time. It would be nice if you have at least one player that has longer playback time. Plus, many on the mainstream/tight-budget crowd (which I think this DAP is targeting at) wants a longer battery life. Anyone with me? If you haven't fully decided yet on the battery you'll use I hope you reconsider putting larger capacity ones. :)

sony's Walkman S series has the longest playback time, around 70 hours.

Other than DSD, it is supporting all formats and bit rates. The main selling point, from what I gather, is that it is the first Hi-Res player in the $100 market.

I myself don't see the point of doing this if they want to target the mainstream crowd as they would normally not have anything past CD quality bit rates. I think the target is the audiophile crowd not the mainstream.

It stated on page 1 that it might have a 1500mAh battery, yet they are certain that it can play 10+hours of music. That alone suggests that X1 is not that power hungry compared to its predecessors. All I'm saying is it would be nice of it can adopt maybe 2000-2500mAh battery to provide longer playback hours. It's $100, you have to admit that some of the mainstream crowd (who might want to be on the right track) will consider it because of that price.

Being a portable device I would much prefer it to be thinner, and realistically who would want a bulky dap? Furthermore, in regards to the pricing you can get a 32gb card for $20. That should be enough to hold your portable collection(couple hundred songs at most). Now what fiio could do is release 2 form factors to please everyone but that would drive the price up(more r&d). Overall I'm pretty stoked for this device hoping it will allow having b3 pro I to be driven to a reasonable level

I'm not saying that I expect fiio to stick an sd card into the x1, because it just ain't gonna happen. But regarding what you said above, a 32gb card is not enough capacity for me (and I suspect for many others). I hate having to "maintain" my portable micro sd cards due to their limited capacity, trying to figure out what I want to put on them. I would much rather have a 128gb card with a large chunk of my music I on it, and not have to think about it except for maybe once a year.

I figured that would be the case for a large chunk of people on head fi :P, but I guess for the price its going to be hard to complain. Still looking pretty good and personally seems like the perfect gym dap, as long as it is significantly better than the sansa fuze I'm using now.

Agreed. I'm not up to date on the X1 actually - what will be the price?

I more often use my Colorfly C3 / C&C BH combo portably. Pros: sounds great. Cons: C3's lacks a lot of features, and I'm not really a fan of stacking a dap/amp - too bulky. So I've been kinda looking at either the X5 or DX90.

But I quite often also use my Clip Zip (which still impresses the heck out of me, and is stupidly compact and handy). So yeah, if the X1's price is right, and if it has better SQ than the clip zip, then I'm interested!

I haven't seen a firm mrsp as of yet, but the price is being spectated at $100(according to some of the responses in the thread).

I have not tracked this thread particularly thoroughly.  I would presume that any kind of bass boost would be adjustable.  After all, the target market is audiophiles looking for a great value.

If this unit delivers anywhere close to what it should deliver, it may get a great deal of mainstream press attention.  Look at all the attention Neil Young has received for the Pono.

My E07 Andes has made me a believer in Fiio.  So I am looking forward to this device.

I don't really care all that much about the choice of storage as long as it uses a format that is reasonably common so that prices follow the general technology curve (downwards).
