And that's getting a bit OT, sorry.

There is the Fiio E18

First of all, not everyone has an amp or is willing to buy one or always carry one and interconnects add additional buk also coz not everyone will be making or buying a custom low-profile ic. Second of all, the X1 is obviously supposed to be an all-in-one affordable DAP for people on a budget or just average consumers who want to get a taste of hi-res audio and better sq but aren't the type that will spend a lot of money on portable audio. And a requirement for a mandatory external amp suddenly will decrease X1's overall value as a small portable DAP and also scare away a lot of consumers coz no - removing the amp section won't make it 30 bucks cheaper.
Fiio obviously has a plan and target market for each of their DAPs and if you're an audiophile and don't mind bulkier size you should get an X3 or X5.

true !

Guess I am wrong then xD sorry!

By the way, are we allowed to adjust the screen brightness of X1? Now that after reading kova4a 's feedback on his Nokia phone... I am concern about it now D: or will the screen be like FiiO E07K/17 like? Non adjustable screen brightness but so far no issue with the brightness of it though..

It's so nearly what I want, except it's too big (combined with a phone), and requires another cable.

The V.Moda Vamp is much more what I had in mind, except I'd have to get a bl00dy iphone.

A device similar to the Vamp to fit something like the forthcoming Sony z1-mini would definitely float my boat, but that seems unlikely.

Meanwhile, back OT, this X1 might be the one to temp me away from my ancient D2!

Unless I succumb to the DX50 due to impatience.

it will be a 1.8 or 2.0inch TFT screen and you can adjust the brightness .

X1 will use WM8740 , which used in some very expensive DAP includes AK100/AK120/HiFiMan HM802, also SONY PHA-1
