5.1 Input into an Astro MixAmp Pro (2013)

Thread Starter

I have recently purchased a set of A40s with the mixamp (2013 edition) and have it set up with a toslink from my Monoprice switcher (MD-415ARC), which is supposed to have 5.1 pass through (selectable by a set of dip switches). I have two HDMI sources in (Computer and WiiU) and one out to my TV, both inputs capable of at least 5.1 through HDMI (Computer has 7.1).

I have the switcher box set to 5.1 pass through and go to test my speakers on either system and neither source produces all five test tones it is supposed to through my A40s and when tested with a game half the audio track is missing.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what it is I might be doing wrong in my setup?

The Astro Mix-amp takes in, up to 6 channels (5.1) of  compressed digital audio, thru the S/PDIF input.

The source device (computer & WIIU) would need to use DDL (Dolby Digital Live) to compress the digital audio signal, before sending the signal thru the HDMI cable.

I'm not sure if "bitstream" is the same as DDL, I'm guessing it's not.

You might consider returning the Astro Mix-Amp and Monoprice MD-415ARC and getting a A/V receiver with HDMI
