And given how these can pass off as hearing aids so long as my phone or other player isn't seen attached to it when I get off the metro train, criminals would likely not be as easily tempted by these.(4)

(4) [. . .] Expats typically don't have to worry about these because they usually get a flat near work and won't have to go through certain places on the way to the suburbs or the residential buroughs, so when they wonder about these things, chances are they just don't do the same commute as most other people.

Whoa! It's easy for anyone to be free-thinking when it doesn't affect them. Like you, I'm careful not wear any expensive-looking headphones where I work in town here in Chicago. Enjoy the ASG-1.

Thanks. Yeah, it's part of the "someone else's shoes" thing. The people who feel too safe in Manila? They're usually from the US suburbs (or some nice EU cities), so they kinda think that the areas in Metro Manila they move around in are all the city is, so unless they're the type to do street photography they don't get to see we have our own areas that evoke how NY or Detroit are portrayed in cop shows. Areas we have to go through going to normal neighborhoods aren't as bad, but of course it's not like criminals just stay in their own boroughs; I mean, who the heck do they mug over there that has something expensive instead of a knife, and it's not like cops and guards can just profile and frisk people at random.

Anyways I really envy everyone who lives in a city where such things aren't a concern, like Singapore, anywhere in Japan, and some parts of Europe. Or at the very least, anywhere that open cans aren't problematic, if not because of the heat (A/C solves that), then the lack of lousy neighbors.
