I have a pair of LCD-XC's, and IMO they don't isolate very well, unless the music listened to is loud, however isolation wasn't the reason I got the LCD-XC.
Also at the moment with the clamping, I find those LCD's are not comfortable.
If I want comfort and isolation though I just use my UM Miracles

The SQ I find from the LCD-XC, is very good apart from it sounding claustrophobic, which is to be expected with them being closed headphones, the headphones I also listen to are the 009's which IMO the LCD-XC can't touch when it comes to detail and transparency.

I just made my own adjusted graph, FWIW, which gives a better picture of what I am trying to describe:

Depends on the listener. I found the XC somewhat lacking in the bass department, but for others it may be just right. Also depends on the type of music you listen to most often, in some sense.

I'm the type that demands the bass act as proper bedrock - a placeholder for rhythm - a club/lounge/loft type of atmosphere, so to speak. Results in a more enveloping sound when combined with slightly recessed midrange, hence my preference for the TH900's presentation.

If you're the type that likes a more gig-like or studio-jam type of presentation, particularly one driven by more forward midrange or vocals, the LCD-XC's presentation may be more to your liking. It's a more centered, in-front-of-you type sound. There's still a fair amount of bass presence, but compared to the TH900 it's not as driving.

I love the bass on the LCD-2 (my favorite headphone for bass so far). Getting a pair of XCs next month and hoping the quality is fairly similar.

From what I understand, the bass is actually less on the XCs than the LCD2/3s.

We'll see how they stack up with the TH900s, T5p's, ATH3000anvs, and Edition 8s of the world....It's gonna get exciting!

I'm not so sure about that - but I'll do a side-by-side w/ my LCD-3!!

I've done it a few times - after my XC's broke-in - and I didn't miss the bass response of my LCD-3.

I'll put it this way, as I did in my Writers Choice Award piece for the X and XC in Positive Feedback:

I prefer the LCD-X for recreational listening AND for studio monitoring now.

When I was working on a friends live record at Red House Studios up here in the Bay Area a couple weeks ago,

I brought my LCD-3's and the LCD-X.

The X was closer to the playback of the high end Nola pro monitors we use there (Carl Marchisoto from Nola built

these specially for the studio - and I've trusted them for years) while the LCD-3 presented a warmer, more textural playback.

Now - I've always LOVED that about my LCD-3's!!  But the LCD-X seemed more accurate when mixing - for me and for the

band members there. The XC got surprisingly close! But of course, no matter how great it is - it's still physically closed -

but man - it sounded like an open-back at times!!

I've been very happy with the bass velocity and fluidity of the XC's thus far.

The low end is also far more airy than I expected for a closed-back, even from Audeze!!

There is great dimensionality and depth.

But I'm psyched to do the side by side!

Great write up Mike! I agree with many of your sentiments about both the LCD-X and LCD-XC. Quite the release of two stellar products at the same time by Audeze.

I should have my review up by just before Christmas (or maybe a few days later). First draft is done, now some word smithing and re-thinking. :)

I'm working on a video review of both cans (dependant on not having my kids interrupt me).

Have a look at my (adjusted) graph, where I matched the bass response of both graphs together, instead of at 1kHz, which is what HeadRoom does.

The deep bass is on the left, behind the "HeadRoom" of the logo. Mids are around (?) the 1kHz area.

Notice the gap between the X in red and XC in blue in the middle of the HeadRoom headphone logo. That'd mid/upper bass (Edit:) and lower mids there. So the XCs with the same music sound a bit thinner with some music. I wouldn't call it "less bass" as such because it depends on the music.

I know this is the LCD-XC thread, and that the photos are of my SR-009's, but I'm showing my 009 here because the headband I'm putting on my LCD-XC, will look more or less the same as the one that can be seen on my 009. I've posted photos of my 009 before with this headband, but the difference this time is I've put 3M Di-Noc carbon fibre on.

I'm picking the brackets up today so I should have the headband on my LCD-XC later on, once done I'll post some photos.

I was going to use some 3M Di-Noc Bubinga wood look sheeting on the headband for my LCD's, but the colour was darker than that on my LCD's, so I'm just using the left over carbon fibre sheeting I used with my 009's.

Bass is not 1khz and below.

If we're playing the freq to sound game, the LCD-XC has less fullness, more crunch and less definition than the LCD-3.

I didn't find this to be the case at all w/ my rigs. However, system synergy is Everything IMO. I was reminded of that recently when

I was making comments on the upcoming Monster DNA Pro over-ears I'm testing - how their low end seemed rolled-off, shelved even,

until I plugged them into my CEntrance HiFi-M8! Then BOOM!

So I try to stay away from blanket statements like this.

I usually say - to me it sounded this way, or I utilize another way of applying the experience to my own interpretation.

Because neither one of us is right or wrong. This is music playback after all - and it's all in the ears of the beholder!

I believe anyway...

Thanks! Means alot coming from you! I greatly appreciate the kind words.

I just HAD to put in that bit about being called an "Audeze Jihadist" by, of course, an anonymous commenter on TAS's website

(which is ironic, considering it's where I got my start and they love Audeze stuff too) - but, as I said in the Awards piece - I don't

share my enthusiasm as an advertisement - I wholly believe it.  Hey, if they built a headphone I didn't like I'd say so!

But they haven't yet - and the fact that one of my closest friends is the co-designer and CEO, well, I've put that out there so nobody

can say I've hidden it! After all, it's a real bonus, loving something that was built by somebody I trust completely is a grand thing!!

I'm still having fun w/ em! As I'm working on my full reviews too!

This week I made a fantastic discovery over here: Double Helix Cables!

Peter over there sent me his Compliment2 cable for Audeze (w/ these dope connectors for my HD800s too) and, I never thought I'd say this:

The synergy between the cables + LCD-X and XC was not only sublime - but it beat the crap out of my Cardas Clear in almost every way:

Midrange clarity, low end excitability, crystalline highs - it seemed as if I gained a dB or two! CRAZY - but it's made my listening experiences

with the LCD-XC all the more engaging

AppleMark        AppleMark

and this is very interesting to me - as I prefer the "vegan headband" as we call it (the non-leather/suede Audeze headband) on my LCD-3s!

So I thought I'd give it a try on the XC's.  For my LCD-3's - it made the fit even more comfortable - as I never had issues w/ the clamping force

and such myself, but once I tried the alternate headband I realized there was more camping force than I would like! The other band just perfected the fit for me.

So I've been thinking about other options in this arena...
