AUDEZE LCD XC - Page 19

Where the yoke rods attach to the yokes on the LCD-XC, the connection is not in the centre of the yokes, which means if the LCD-XC was to be worn like the SR-009, the LCD-XC's headband would be on the top part of the forehead. So to solve what I think is a problem, there'll be a hole drilled on each yoke in the centre, that way when the new headband's complete and I'm ready to screw it to the LCD-XC's ear pieces, the headband will be directly on top, like with the 009's.
The 3M Di-Noc Bubinga sheet has arrived which I'm putting on the new headband for my LCD-XC's, I can't put it on yet because I've to wait for the brackets being made, I'm seeing the Engineer that's doing the brackets tomorrow.

right on. Its funny, in two days my go to cans have become the TH 900 and the XC. The XC is probably the more natural and slightly quicker then the 900 (a tad more). But I tell you, I ain't parting with either of these cans. Both HPs have awesome bass but IMO, the 900 is a little more "fun" bass. Listening to a mix of Aerosmith, McCartney, Steve Vai just to get variety in for A/B ing purposes. Well, two fantastic HPs, two days in the weekend. Sounds right by me

I like your taste in music!

One of the reasons why I went for the LCD-XC, was to hopefully make the problem songs I find with the 009's, more comfortable listening. Anyway I decided to listen to some of those songs today with my LCD-XC / GS-Xmk2 which included the two I find the most uncomfortable, " SledgeHammer " and " Big Time ". And I have to say I couldn't be happier, all of the problem songs I listened to including the two mentioned sounded fantastic. Once I get this clamping sorted out, I'm going to be spending as much time with the LCD-XC / GS-Xmk2 than with my 009 / BHSE.

I've taken a drawing of the brackets I'm wanting made for the new headband, to the Engineer that's doing them for me, and he told me he's busy but will hopefully have them done in just over a week.

Sorry about the window showing in the refection of the ear cup.

AppleMark

It might be able to make out a small mark on the wall, my home needs decorating badly, and with me having the audio equipment I've been wanting, the decorating is what I'll be having done next.

As some that are interested in the mod I'm doing have probably figured out, I'm going to be putting a similar headband to my LCD's, that I put on my 009's.
The difference being, because the yokes on the LCD's are different to the 009's, the brackets my local engineer will make [ same engineer that did them for the headband on my 009's] will have to be a different size. He'll be using the same aluminium bar I still have but the brackets will need to be slightly longer.

Here are two photos of the headband I'll be using.

The last two photos are of the 3M Di-Noc Carbon Fibre wrapping I'm going to put around the headband on my 009's.

Aswell as putting this Carbon Fibre wrapping on my 009's, I've also ordered a 3M Di-Noc wrapping sheet for my LCD-XC, but that one is in Bubinga.

majorly OCD wink.gif but that's an awesome mod. sr009 looks better for it IMO. props to you man.

At the moment, the engineer that's doing the brackets that'll enable me to attach the new headband to my LCD-XC's yokes, ( a different hole will have to be drilled into the two yokes on the LCD-XC ) has also got the headband I did for my 009's. He said seeing that headband along with the brackets, will allow him to know exactly how I'm wanting the new brackets to look. However the problem with him having the headband for my 009's, is I recently got a piece of 3M Di-Noc Carbon fibre sheet ( shown in two of the photos ) that I'm going to put on that headband, and while he's got it I obviously can't put that Carbon fibre sheet on.
I'm passing his shop tomorrow so I'll see if he still needs that headband, after all he only needs the brackets.
After I've put this Carbon fibre sheet on, I'm then going to see about getting some black memory foam about 3/16" thick to put on the inside of the headband, then put a strip of black leather I've still got, onto the memory foam. Because the leather's going to be in contact with my shaven head, for extra comfort the suede part will be showing.
Anyway, when everything's done, I'll post some photos of the two headphones together.

P.S. I did the headband for my 009's, because I didn't like the look of the original, however, I'm doing the one for my LCD-XC's because the clamping from it's headband is too tight.

If they sound half as good as they look, we'll definitely have a winner.  From what I've read in this thread, it sounds like a silver replacement headphone cable will be the way to go with these babies!!!

I'm not sure about the grey rims for these now from these photos. Maybe the black is the way to go?

tighter, finer bass; extends the highs, particularly given that Audezes have always tended toward the warmish side of things...plus, since I listen to classical music, it looks like silver would suit me (maybe not you) fine.

That'd be a tough call IMO. I'm using an ALO reference cable ATM which brings out the bass a touch more. They are definitely great for classical, ignoring the somewhat closed-in sound. I've switched back to listening with the -X for now.

I have a copper ALO reference cable attached to my LCD2s...I'll will, therefore, be able to try the LCD-Xs with copper and silver.  Who knows, maybe I'll end up plugging the LCD2s to the silver and the LCD-Xs to the copper!

Yeah...the tri-color thing with the LCD-Xs (i.e., Black, Grey, Wood) is not to my liking either.

I really like the SPC/copper Reference cable with the LCD-Xs for the same reasons as I mentioned before. Though different-sounding headphones I think cables that are good with the HD-800s will be good with these as well. Even though part of me thinks the idea of fine-tuning the sound with cables is a bit crazy it is working for me in this case.
