I have a Sony D-555 portable cd player and am looking for an accessory for it. I'm not looking for the original battery but an optional adapter that fit into the battery compartment and held 4 AA batteries. If you have one, a lead on one, or the part number please post here or PM me.
Accessory for Sony D-555 Portable CD Player

Yeah 4 AA's wouldn't fit. I know I used something internal, maybe it used a 9 volt(not 2 AA's as I don't think that's enough voltage to run it). I know I used something.
As for the original BP-2EX I see some compatible battery packs for sale around the internet, would these work(and also charge) in existing D-555's?
I took a look as some of my other vintage PCDPs that I had in storage this evening and came upon my D-10 which has the optional external Sony battery compartment. Not sure if it's the same one you're talking about. This external battery compartment will work with the D-10, D-15, D-25, D-55, D-7S, and D-555. It needs 8 AA's to power the D-555 and the other mentioned PCDPs, the model number for the external 8 AA compartment is EBP-380. The EBP-380 attaches to the bottom of the PCDP, sort of like a sled. It has been long discontinue and is difficult to find as no one has them. The picture below is what the EBP-380 looks like with the battery compartment (bottom side of the sled) shown:
The compatible BP-2EX will work and charge with the D-555 but you need to be careful not to over charge them as they generate quite a bit of heat while charging.

Ok I remember that one also. I remember seeing it and the charger I'm thinking of, I didn't like the flat tray for some reason and went with the other one. One other thing about mine is that I remember it was light grey in color, not black. I am now however not so turned off by that tray, maybe I'll try to get it now.
Thanks for showing the tray.

the "official" optional external battery pack is SONY EBP-360 as it is written on the manual and it also says DO NOT use EBP-380 but no reason was given.
both 360 and 380 are hard to come by now days anyway.
if any one still have EBP 360, please pm me.
Both EBP-360 & 380 are identical, there is no difference between the two and both can be used safely on some vintage Sony PCDP's. I own both of them and no thery're not for sale, a pic of the EBP-360 external AA battery pack
