Fully balanced Denon D2000 w/ J$ ear pads and upgraded cables
Will Ship To: Anywhere
Hi, I have an upgraded Denon D2000 for sale in the original box. I sold my old SS amp and none of my current tube amps do it justice. This headphone is definitely for the folks who have a quality SS amp such Asgard II, ideally a Mjolnir to take advantage of the balanced wiring. The improvements are listed below.
1) J$ ear pads - vastly improved comfort when moving from the stock pleather ear pads to real leather. Furthermore, the J$ pads angle the driver to the ear and creates a larger cavity for the sound. This opens up the entire range, especially the bottom end. I always thought Denons hit hard in the bass department, although at times it can sound one noted, bloated. Well the stiffer leather and larger cavity lets the bass breathe revealing the nuances of the texture of the now many bass notes. This is amazing stuff. More so than my K701, Senn HD600 and Adam A7X studio monitors. The mid-range also comes forward a little and the highs goes from overly bright to an enjoyable slight sparkle. Just the pads themselves cost $99 from Lawton Audio.
2) Balance rewire with Mogami Star Quad cable. The stock cables were always rubbish. Anyone familiar with studios know that Mogami Star Quads are a favorite when professionals wire up their studios. The re-cabling slightly improved clarity and extension on both ends. More importantly, the headphones are now terminated dual Neutrik XLR, ideal for balanced amps. I'll also include a converter so the headphones work single ended too. When running in balance mode, there are further improvement in clarity, channel separation, and space.
Please let me know if you have any questions or want some additional photos. I think this would be the perfect platform to build the ultimate Denon headphones. All that's missing is wooden cups w/ some dynamat (~90).
Price is $340 + $15 priority shipping.
Thank you for looking.
