Do ipod LOD cables really do anything for quality?

I mean can't you just adjust the volume on the ipod to line levels and it'll have the same effect.  I could see if the cable was really outputting digital signal.

Wonder if anyone has just gotten parts from an existing apple device and turned it into a real digital connection.

a LOD bepasses the internal Amp, allowing you to use your own amp, and the the benifits from your own amp. ie: however your external amp sounds ect.

if you use a 3.5 to 3.5 to a amp, you are amplifying the internal amplifier of the ipod, so you arent getting a pure amplification.

depending on the conductor materials, you can have a cleaner signal using a LOD, you can like i said also benifit from using only the external amp and bypass the internal ipod amp.

IMO a lod is the only way to go. only real way to ontain a cleaner signal bypass the internal amp and use a external amplifier.

there are devices like the cypher labs algorhythm solo and the fostex hpp1 that use the ipod and bypass both the internal dac and amp, thus allowing you to use a external amp and dac.

Alright thanks for the info, I don't own an iPod but was curious if they made a difference.  If only Apple let you use digital out, and SD card storage and removable batteries.

eh, ipod IMO is probably one of the worse DAPS imo, you can get a external dac and amp, but its not worth it imo, then the ipod just becomes a media carrying device, nothing more. and apple doesnt seem to have any intent on creating a ipod that has a halfway decent amp and dac section.....the only one that was half way decent was the 5.5 classic that had the wolfson dac chip. but it was far from audiophile quality.apple has no intentions of letting users control anything about their product. like you said no sd card,no replaceable battery,no digital out, imo very limited

Right now I'm using a Galaxy S4 + FiiO E18 DAC/AMP

I was just curious because FiiO sells LOD cables
